Cincinnati Reds

The Reds fell behind 3-0 after three innings in the opener of this set and ended up falling 4-1. Elly De La Cruz had the only RBI. On Tuesday in game two Cincinnati had just one hit as a team in a 6-1 loss. Spencer Steer knocked in Nick Senzel during the top of the ninth, but otherwise there was no offense.

In the starter role for the Wednesday matchup the Reds will send out Hunter Greene. This year in his 16 starts Greene is 2-6 with a 5.06 ERA and 108 Ks in 80.0 innings. Greene is 2-3 with a 5.59 ERA over his last seven starts.

Over on the San Francisco side, they posted eight team hits in Monday’s victory. JD Davis was the only player with multiple hits though, going 2-for-4 with a run. In game two the Giants scored all their runs in the first three innings. Patrick Bailey led the team with two runs, two hits and two RBI, and Alex Cobb posted a complete game on the mound with one hit, one walk, eight Ks and one earned.

It’ll be Logan Webb in the starter role for the Giants on Wednesday. Across 27 starts this year Webb is 9-10 with a 3.51 ERA and 163 Ks in 174.1 innings. Webb is 1-3 with a 4.79 ERA over his last seven starts.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m probably staying with the Giants, but also probably not touching this one. Both starters need a good showing here. Webb has given up nine earned in 11.1 innings over his last pair of starts. As for Greene, he’s got 13 earned runs over his last pair in just 6.2 frames, going 0-2 in those games. I would imagine both guys will pitch better here, but things could get messy all the same. On Tuesday San Francisco got a wonderful pitching performance from Cobb, and the early offensive strike was enough to propel the team to a win. I like the Giants to keep it up and take another win for the sweep on Wednesday.
