Messier and Adare Manor worked yesterday for this Saturday's Grade I Runhappy Santa Anita Derby and Grade II Santa Ana Oaks. They both breezed five furlongs in 1:00.60 and 1.00:20. John Velazquez will ride Adar Manor in the Oaks and Messier in Santa Monica Derby. The $750,000 Santa Santa Derby offers the winner 100 qualifying points to the Kentucky Derby, 40 to runner-up, 20 to third-place finisher and 10 to fourth.

The Runhappy Santa Anita Derby Day 5K Run & Walk returns this Saturday, April 9. It has been a Derby day tradition since 1994. The event is free and open to the public. There are registration options. The race starts at 7:45 a.m. on Baldwin Ave. and finishes on the inner training track. Baldwin Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic between the 210 Freeway and Huntingdon Drive.

Santa Anita will not be dark for live racing Monday through Thursday. Live racing resumes on April 8th at 1 p. m.
