Saudi club chief makes Mohamed Salah promise as Jamie Carragher gives blunt Liverpool prediction

As Liverpool prepares for the return of Premier League action this weekend against Manchester City, plenty of news continues to develop off the pitch as we approach the January transfer window. Here's your round-up of the latest Liverpool news.

Mohamed Salah transfer vow made by Al-Ittihad chief

Al-Ittihad president Anmar Al-Haili has promised to reveal all about the Saudi club’s pursuit of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah during the summer transfer window.

The 31-year-old Egyptian forward was subject to heavy interest from the spending powers of the Saudi Pro League, as Al-Ittihad looked to reunite former teammates Fabinho and Salah in the Middle East.

Liverpool rebuffed any offers made for their talisman, including a verbal offer of around $187m (£150m/€172m), as it looked to keep Salah for the upcoming 2023/24 campaign.

Speaking to Spanish outlet AS, Al-Halil has since promised to reveal all the details of the pursuit of Salah, as well as former Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos and Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne. He said: "I remained silent… but I hope to be able to respond soon to what happened in the last week of the summer market regarding Salah, Ramos and De Bruyne."

Carragher makes Man City vs Liverpool prediction

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Jürgen Klopp's side will struggle against Man City this weekend ahead of their showdown at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola's side currently tops the Premier League table, with the Reds sitting just one point behind them in second ahead of the clash on Saturday.

City secured all three points against Klopp's men the last time they met in Manchester after Mohamed Salah's early opener was canceled out by goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, Julián Álvarez and İlkay Gündoğan.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcastthe Mirror) ahead of the clash, which is once again the early kick-off for Liverpool after the international break, Carragher said: "It will be tough — the best Liverpool will get is a draw. Liverpool’s record there is poor. Liverpool have the best goalkeeper in the world and they’ll definitely need him.

"Liverpool’s defensive record has been really good this season and Virgil Van Dijk has been not too far away from his best. But there are still chinks in the armor with [Andy] Robertson out, Trent [Alexander-Arnold] in that midfield going back to fullback, and I’m thinking of Doku coming up against him.

"Also, Liverpool defensively in midfield still haven’t really got that top class number six, so it will be difficult. The best they’ll get is a draw.”
