Shute Shield 2022: Gordon and Sydney University in grand final after closest season ever

Gordon and Sydney University will play in the Shute Shield 2022 grand final on Saturday afternoon at Leichhardt Oval. It was the closest season in living memory for the competition. Gordon coach Brian Melrose says it's the most even competition he's seen in his 59 years. Sydney Uni coach Sean Hedger used to play for Brisbane. The competition has been more intense this year because of the number of professional leagues around the world. The work done to build up Western Sydney and Newcastle has also been a big boost to the game. There are no easy weeks anymore. Last year's competition was cancelled.
