Point Spread Pick

The Stanford Cardinal take on the Colorado Buffaloes in a PAC-12 battle on Friday night. Colorado is 4-2 this year and one of the biggest stories in football. The Buffaloes only had 1 win last year and their win total was 3.5 before the season. Their only 2 losses this year have been against 2 top-10 teams in USC and Oregon. On the other side is Stanford, whose preseason win total was 3 and is 1-4 this season. The Cardinal have also had losses to Oregon and USC but also losses to Sacramento State and Arizona. Their only win this year is against Hawaii in the first game of the season. They will have a tough test this week against a strong Colorado team.

The Buffaloes offense has been hot this year. They average 415.8 yards and 34.2 points per game. Their quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, led the team to a late victory against Arizona State last week. Sanders has a 72.7% completion percentage with 2020 yards, 19 total touchdowns and only 2 interceptions. He leads their offense and it shows based on the numbers, but their defense has not been as solid. They allow on average 465.5 yards and 36.2 points per game. They have been missing some pieces on defense. including former 5-star recruit Travis Hunter at cornerback (Hunter could return tonight). Luckily for the Buffaloes, Stanford only averages 344.4 yards and 19.2 points per game. Stanford not only struggles on offense, but its defense also has been underperforming. The Cardinal allow on average 445.2 yards and 34.6 points per game. Stanford is 2-9 against the spread in its last 11 and 1-9 straight up in its last 10. Colorado is the favorite in this game for a reason; its offense is explosive enough to light up this poor Stanford defense. The Buffaloes’ defense has some holes in it, but Stanford’s offense has not looked good enough to exploit any opportunities. I like the Buffaloes in this game.

Game Totals Pick

Colorado could score 45 points in this game easily, but the question is can Stanford score enough to go above the total? Although Stanford’s offense has not looked good, it has scored 20 points in 3 of 5 games. Against this Colorado defense, which allows on average 465.5 yards and 36.20 points per game, Stanford should be able to score points. Behind quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the Buffaloes have had 3 fourth quarter drives to win the game. Colorado averages 34.20 points per game and has scored 40 points or more in 3 of 6 games. The Buffs have hit the over in 12 of their last 17 games and in 4 of their last 6 at home. Colorado will likely put up points in bunches in front of the home crowd against this Stanford defense. I’m backing the over.
