Supercomputer predicts Arsenal Premier League place in Liverpool, Man Utd and Man City title race

After a whirlwind Premier League season came to an end in late May, there's been time for reflection and a moment to pause and catch some breath back, but it's almost time to do it all again.

The 31st season of the division is set to start next Friday as Manchester City kick off against Burnley, with a familiar face in Vincent Kompany at the helm. City are off the back of a historic treble that saw them win the league, the FA Cup and the Champions League.

They will be hopeful of a repeat, or even going one better for a quadruple, but will face some stern competition once again to retain the crown. Arsenal could be their closest competitors after an impressive campaign that saw them push City all the way to the final few games.

A transfer spend of over £200million has shown the ambition of the north Londoners, who will be hungry to get their hands on the trophy. Other teams have also improved in the summer, with Liverpool and Manchester United another two rivals that have made some huge signings.

In anticipation of the new season, a supercomputer has predicted the campaign by taking a whole range of data and seeing where teams finish. Bettingexpert simulated the league season out 100,000 times to find an average of where teams have been found most likely to end up.

If the supercomputer is right, it seems as though there will be a four-team title race including Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. However, on average, that order is exactly how the top two teams ended up finishing in the league, with Pep Guardiola backed to win the league again.

City are given a 68.7% chance to win it on probabilities, with Arsenal at 13.2%, Liverpool at 10.1% and United ranking in at 5%. While that is the case early on, these things could still change, with the thrill of live sport and football coming from the unscripted nature of it.

It remains to be seen how the Premier League will play out this season, from winners to losers and favourites to underdogs, but it will surely be another exciting year in store.
