Tennessee Titans vs Kansas City Chiefs Inactive and Injury Reports for Sunday Night Football

The Tennessee Titans have been enjoying their fair share of success in recent years against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. However, it’s all come with Ryan Tannehill under center for Tennessee.

As of late Sunday afternoon, Tannehill’s status for the Week 9 SNF game between the two teams was a question still without answer.

An ankle injury that caused Tannehill to miss last week’s win over the Houston Texans is continuing to keep his status for Sunday’s game uncertain. Expectations are that the Titans will make a decision whether Tannehill can answer the bell right at game time.

Tannehill’s unclear status is certainly impacting the odds, where Kansas City is set as 12.5-point home favorites. The Titans are 5-0 straight up and against the spread over the past five games. However, it’s Kansas City that is garnering significant wagering action in the Titans vs Chiefs betting splits.

While Tannehill’s status remains up in the air, there’s no question regarding starting fullback Troy Carter. He’s out with a neck injury.

Tennessee is also hurting at wide receiver. Starters Treylon Burks (toe) and Kyle Phillips (hamstring) are on injured reserve, as is backup Racey McMath (hip). Starting left tackle Taylor Lewan (knee) is also on IR.

On defense, WLB Harold Landry (knee) is already on IR. For the Chiefs game, LDE Jeffery Simmons (ankle) and SLB Bud Dupree (hamstring) are listed as questionable. Strong safety Amani Hooker (shoulder) is out.

Kansas City Chiefs Injury Report

Suffering a Grade 2 hamstring pull in Week 2 of the regular season while with the New York Giants, WR Kadarius Toney was cleared from any injury designation last week. Had the Chiefs not been on a bye week, he would’ve been playing last Sunday.

Toney was limited to two games and two receptions with the Giants this season. New York traded Toney to the Chiefs at the NFL trade deadline.

Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark is under suspension for the next two games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. The discipline has to do with two arrests Clark had last season for gun charges in Los Angeles.

Left tackle Lucas Niang (kneecap), who started nine games last season, is on the PUP list

How Could Injuries Affect Titans vs Chiefs Lines?

In addition to swaying the Titans vs Chiefs odds, if Tannehill is a no-go, bettors will need to take a hard look at some passing unders on Tennessee rookie backup QB Malik Willis the Titans vs Chiefs NFL player props.  In his first NFL start last week against the Texans, Willis was 6-of-10 in the air for a paltry 55 yards.

Tannehill has been a limited participant in practice this week. Simmons has also missed practice reps again this week. However, he ended up playing last week against Houston without practicing once the entire week. Lonnie Johnson will step in at strong safety to replace Hooker.

Minus Clark, the Chiefs are looking at keeping rookie George Karlaftis at LDE. He’s been the starter there all season with Mike Danna (calf) out of action. However, Danna is good to go this week after missing four of the past five games.

The plan is that Danna and veteran Carlos Dunlap can fill the void left by Clark’s absence. Dunlap has recorded two sacks and three QB hits in a backup role. He shows 98 sacks for his NFL career, including a career-high 13.5 for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015. Dunlap recorded 8.5 sacks last season with the Seattle Seahawks.

Toney will be slotting in at second string on the WR depth chart behind JuJu Smith-Schuster.
