Tigers vs. Blue Jays prop bets: Continue finding ways to back Matt Chapman

After an electric home opener, the Toronto Blue Jays are back in action tonight against the Detroit Tigers.

The pregame narrative: We’ve found two plus-money ways to tail Matt Chapman, whose hot streak has a solid chance of continuing tonight. We’re also in on Bo Bichette to score a run, as he has in eight of 11 games this season.

Here are our Tigers vs. Blue Jays prop bets for the April 12 matchup at Rogers Centre.

MLB odds as of 11:15 a.m. ET on 04/12/23.

Best Bet: Chapman over 1.5 bases (+116)

Really? This guy is still getting plus money on his bases prop?

That’s because of the assumption that his blazing hot streak will come to an end at some point. And while that assumption is fair, we don’t mind flying in the face of it when the price is right.

Few adjectives do justice to describe Chapman’s start, as the third baseman’s AL-best 21 hits have led to him clearing this line in eight of 11 games.

His average exit velocity (99.3 mph) leads the majors, and his expected batting average (.418) is not far off his actual BA (.477). Frankly, it’s astounding.

And again, we realize good things like this must come to an end. But tonight’s matchup with Tigers starter Eduardo Rodriguez doesn’t sound like a death knell for the epic start.

Chapman is 4-for-11 (.364) in his career against the lefty Rodriguez, with three extra-base knocks in that span.

Key stat: Since the start of last season, Chapman has a .285/.353/.504 slash line (144 wRC+) against lefties.

Quick picks

Bichette over 0.5 runs (-122): Bichette is on a run-scoring rampage, which gives us reason to back him even on a juiced line like this.

Toronto’s No. 2 hitter already has 10 runs scored in 11 games, cashing on this prop eight times — including seven of his past eight games.

He’s reached safely in four of eight plate appearances against Rodriguez, and he’s been on base in all but one game this year. The opportunity is ripe for Bichette to cross the plate again tonight.

Chapman 1+ hits, Gausman 7+ strikeouts (+145): Here’s a milder way to back Chapman while tapping into Gausman’s plum matchup against the Tigers.

Chapman has recorded a hit in 10 of 11 games, and we’ve already spoken to his success against Rodriguez. Plenty to like on that front.

As for Gausman, he’s cleared this strikeout total in six of his past seven starts (dating back to last year). It also helps to know the Tigers have a 26.7% K-rate so far (third-highest in MLB).
