Blue Jays vs. Angels prop bets: Back Bichette, Trout amid hot streaks

The Toronto Blue Jays face the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday afternoon in a series rubber match.

The pregame narrative: Mike Trout, Matt Chapman and Bo Bichette are all blazing hot right now, so we’ve found plus-money ways to back each of them. And let’s not forget about Taylor Ward, who has already scored eight times in as many games.

Here are our Blue Jays vs. Angels prop bets for the April 9 game at Angel Stadium.

MLB odds as of 11:30 a.m. ET on 04/09/23.

Blue Jays vs. Angels prop bets

Best Bet: Trout, Chapman 1+ hits each (+117)

We’re backing the two hottest hitters in this matchup to notch one hit apiece.

It’s no surprise to see Trout featured in this space, as the three-time MVP is frequently on a hot streak. Trout has recorded at least one hit in each of his past seven games, with home runs against the Blue Jays on consecutive nights.

Additionally, Trout is 6-for-14 (.429) in his career against Blue Jays starter Yusei Kikuchi. The last time they faced each other was in August, and Trout homered off the left-hander in one of two at-bats.

Chapman doesn’t have much history against today’s starter for the Angels, Reid Detmers. The third baseman is 0-for-3 with a walk, but we’re not gleaning much from that.

No, we’d prefer to take the “what have you done for me lately” approach with Chapman. And through that lens, he’s done plenty.

Chapman has an MLB-best 16 hits through nine games, and he has also hit safely in seven straight. Banking on one hit apiece from these guys for plus money feels like a smash play.

Key stat: Through nine games, Chapman has a .457 batting average; Trout is batting .346 through eight games.

Quick picks

Bichette over 0.5 runs (+100): In all fairness to Bichette, he has just as much of a case as Chapman to be considered Toronto’s top hitter. Bichette enters today’s game on a three-game multi-hit streak.

More importantly, Bichette has scored in five of his past six games — and he has seven runs total in nine games.

From the No. 2 spot in Toronto’s loaded lineup, Bichette will continue to be a solid bet to score as long as he’s swinging a hot bat.

Ward over 0.5 runs (-118): Putting together Ward’s opportunity, his recent trend and his matchup history with Kikuchi, we’re loving this prop.

Ward is the Angels’ leadoff hitter, which always maximizes his trips to the plate. He’s scored in seven straight games, and he’s 4-for-5 with a double and a homer against Kikuchi.

Though it’s nice to see run props have a plus sign at the front of them, we can handle the juice here based on what Ward has been up to.
