Top three MLB prop bets today 8/21/2023

We got ten games in action today as September baseball creeps closer. With the playoff race in full effect, make sure you’re informed on how to best bet on baseball. We have researched and reviewed all of the top Michigan sportsbooks and the best promotional offers available at each of these sportsbooks so you maximize your betting.

Here are the best bets today:

The Atlanta Braves are the best team in baseball and today they face one of the weaker teams in baseball, the New York Mets. The Braves average 0.99 runs in the first inning. This mark is good for first in the MLB. On the other hand, the Mets average 0.34 runs per inning which puts them in dead last.

For the moneyline, the Braves are -220 which makes them the biggest favorite of the day. Instead, with this bet, we get to put money on the favorite with positive odds. The Braves are the best at scoring early and the Mets are the worst.

It’s always fun to bet on Shohei Ohtani and today we get decent odds too. The Angels superstar is one of the best in all hitting categories this season. This season, he is slashing .306/407/.664 for an OPS of 1.071. Historically, having an OPS of 1.0 or greater is a mark of the best batters. In the past seven games, those numbers are .320/.393/.720 with three home runs.

Today, Ohtani has the pleasure of going against Graham Ashcraft (6-8, 4.89 ERA) of the Reds. The Reds have one of the worst ERAs in the league and they have given up 622 runs this season. 622 runs puts them at the sixth-most league-wide.

Javier Assad (2-2, 3.11 ERA) has moved from the bullpen to the starting rotation for the Cubs. Today, Chicago takes on Detroit for an interleague game. The Tigers are 57-67 on the season and have the second-fewest runs scored across baseball at 490. On the other hand, the Cubs are fifth in runs scored with 617 trips around the bases.

Assad has been solid since becoming a starter. In his first game in August, he had a shorter outing (3.2 IP), but he struck out three and only had two earned. He followed that performance up with a seven-inning performance, only giving up one run. Last week, Assad continued to show comfort on the mound. He pitched six innings and had just two earned.

With the skill difference between the Cubs and Tigers, plus Assad’s consistency on the bump, this bet looks nice at +210 odds.
