Top Win Contenders in Santa Ynez Stakes

The $200,000, Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes at Santa Anita Park is a seven-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies. Five of the six filly entered won their most recent races, while the other one was defeated by a nose on the wire in her last start. Big Switch is two-for-two, having been last seen in November taking the Golden State Juvenile Fillies Stake. Mimajoon won the Debutante Staking near the end of November, Awake at Midnyte came up a few inches short of winning the Jimmy Durante, and Under the Stars won a dirt sprint on Dec. 11.

Miss Mattie B won her most recent race on Nov. 27 under Mike Smith. Big Switch is a perfect two-for-two in her career. Under the Stars is the betting favorite in the Santa Ynez Stakes. Bob Baffert has won with nine of 21 starters since the start of the winter-spring meeting on Dec. 26. The other foals from the same dam won seven of 16 races on dirt and were a stakes winner at seven furlongs. They are trained by John Sadler. He has also won nine races since December 26 with Bob. B Affert.
