Toronto Blue Jays vs San Diego Padres Prediction 7-18-23 MLB Picks

The San Diego Padres and the Toronto Blue Jays meet Tuesday in MLB action from Rogers Centre. The Padres are coming off a weekend series versus the Phillies, losing three of four games. As for Toronto, they played the Diamondbacks over the weekend and managed a three-game sweep. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

San Diego Padres

The Padres took an 8-3 victory in the Friday opener of the Phillies series. The next three games were all losses 6-4, 9-4 and 7-6, however. Starting pitcher Seth Lugo lasted 5.1 innings with five earned on seven hits and no walks on Sunday.

For the starter job Tuesday the Padres will send out Joe Musgrove. This year Musgrove is 8-2 with a 3.29 ERA in 14 starts. He had 79 Ks in 79.1 innings. Musgrove is 58-56 with a 3.75 ERA in 184 games (158 starts).

Toronto Blue Jays

Over on the Blue Jays’ side, they took a three-game sweep against the Diamondbacks with wins 7-2, 5-2 and 7-5 over the weekend. Toronto’s Yusei Kikuchi logged 4.2 innings with one earned on two hits and three walks in Sunday’s game.

The Blue Jays will send out Alek Manoah in the starting role on Tuesday. Across his 14 starts this year Manoah is 2-7 with a 5.91 ERA and 56 Ks in 64.0 innings. Manoah is 27-16 with a 3.17 ERA in 65 career games.

The Padres have hit the under in 47 of their last 87 games and the money line in 44 of their last 94. San Diego has hit the over in 33 of the last 87 games.

Meanwhile, the Jays have hit the over in 32 of their last 83 games and the over in 11 of their last 18 at home. Toronto has hit the money line in eight of their last nine.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll stay with the Padres in this one. Musgrove is doing well these days. In his last three starts combined Musgrove is 2-0 with 19.0 combined innings, three earned runs, 13 hits and two walks during that stretch. He should be able to post another quality outing here. As for Manoah, he had a rough start versus Houston way back on June 5 (0.1 innings; six earned) but returned July 7 for one earned in 6.0 innings. Manoah should be fine here as well, and I like this one to be a competitive matchup most of the way.
