It’s December, which means teams are entering the final stretch of the 2023 NFL regular season and are running out of chances to improve their seed and Super Bowl odds before the playoffs start.

The San Francisco 49ers stormed to the top of the odds board after a series of dominant wins, most recently against the Philadelphia Eagles, while the Kansas City Chiefs are still favorites in the AFC despite recently falling to the fourth seed.

What does the full list of Super Bowl odds look like, and who are our favorite bets? Let’s dive into the numbers:

Updated 2024 Super Bowl odds: A 49ers-Chiefs rematch in the cards?

The 49ers are the new odds-on favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in February.

They boast the second-best point differential in the league and have already blown out top teams such as the Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars. They also have a pair of MVP candidates in Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey and a menacing defense.

The Chiefs won the championship last year and have been to three of the last five Super Bowls, but Patrick Mahomes is not playing at his usual standard and the cast of skill position players is the worst since the reigning MVP took over the starting job.

The 10-2 Eagles, 9-3 Miami Dolphins and 9-3 Baltimore Ravens are all close behind in odds. Philly is the most balanced and physical of the three, while Miami has the most explosive offense (first in average scoring) and Baltimore has the best defense (first in average points allowed).

The Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars fill out the third tier of contenders.

Super Bowl 58 pick: Philadelphia Eagles (+600 or better)

This is as good a time as any to get the Eagles. Barring a loss to the Cowboys this weekend, it’s unlikely their odds fall much further.

It’s also unrealistic to demand the team with the toughest strength of schedule to win forever, and they’ve proven themselves to be both clutch and capable of blowing teams out.

Jalen Hurts is injured, but he’s developed as a downfield passer and is as sure of a short-yardage threat as there is in the league.

The recent signing of former All-Pro linebacker Shaq Leonard will also solidify the middle of their defense, and they’ll be able to assume the motivating role of underdog following the Niners loss.

It’s tough to find a team with more overall balance than Philly. They still haven’t played a perfect game and are 10-2 with the experience of a Super Bowl run last year.

We also still have concerns with the Niners, who are yet to prove they can play from behind or when they deal with injuries.

Super Bowl LVIII best bets: Fade the Dolphins (+800 or better)

Frankly, every team in the league has concerns when it comes to picking a Super Bowl winner. The Dolphins, however, give more cause for caution than any other team that’s in the top five for betting odds.

Tyreek Hill has failed to record 100+ receiving yards in four games — the Dolphins are 1-3 in those instances. The defense, though it is improving, also has not played a strong offense since Week 7, when it gave up 31 points in a 14-point loss to the Eagles.

Tua Tagovailoa has been given lots of credit for his development, and for good reason. However, he has not proven that he can do out and be the driving force of a team that wins games in far-from-ideal circumstances in high-pressure moments. With the caliber of defenses residing in Baltimore, Cleveland and Kansas City, among other AFC locations, it’s tough to back them to go undefeated in the postseason.

Super Bowl 2024 long shot pick: Watch out for the Dallas Cowboys (+1000 or better)

We said at the halfway mark of the year that the Jaguars were flying under the radar — that held true until Monday Night Football, when Trevor Lawrence suffered a high-ankle sprain.

Now, our attention is turned to the Cowboys. Although they only have one win against a team with a winning record, they outplayed the Eagles and would have won if not for bad luck. Dak Prescott is also the hottest quarterback in the league and has quickly risen to a top MVP candidate.

Dallas has the best average scoring differential in the league and has everything a team could ask for in the modern NFL: a solid offensive line, a great quarterback, playmakers on the outside and a defense that gets after the passer.

If they beat Philly this weekend, it’ll be time to have a serious talk about America’s team.
