Virginia Tech Football: Hokies open as big underdogs at Louisville

The Virginia Tech football team picked up where they left off at the bye week, playing good football on both sides of the ball. Their playing so well that they have climbed up to third place in the ACC standings through Week 9. They have wins over Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, and Syracuse, with their lone loss coming at the hands of undefeated Florida State.

Sitting in third place, the Hokies have their biggest game of the season coming this weekend when they travel to Louisville on Saturday. The Cardinals are 4-1 in the ACC and a half-game ahead of Brent Pry’s team. A win for either team will go a long way into who will most likely be Florida State’s opponent in December in the ACC championship game. Despite how well Tech is playing, the odds don’t favor them against Louisville.

Virginia Tech opens a double-digit underdog against Louisville

Sunday the betting odds were released for this week’s games and according to DraftKings, Louisville opens as a 10-point favorite at home against Virginia Tech.

Despite the way the Hokies are playing, it’s not a surprise that they open up as an underdog against the Cardinals, but the point spread is a little surprising. Ten points seems like a lot of points and apparently, the odds-makers are not sold on Virginia Tech playing as well as they have at home on the road.

Louisville’s loss this season came on the road at the hands of Pittsburgh, which is very surprising. The Panthers beat them, 38-21, on Oct. 14, and this past weekend, they shut down Duke, 23-0, at home.

At 4-4, aside from Florida State, this is the second toughest road test for Pry’s team and it’s expected to be a hostile environment with so much on the line. This is going to be a good test for Virginia Tech and should tell us if they are getting as better each week as they look like they are.
