ACC Football Week 12: Game Previews and Spread Predictions
Virginia Cavaliers canceled this week's game against Coastal Carolina in light of the terrible events that occurred last Sunday. The spotlight moves to the Hurricanes (3-3 ACC) and the Yellow Jackets ( 3-4 ACC), who are the only two conference teams still in bowl game limbo.
Louisiana (5-5) plays Florida State (7-3) at noon on Saturday. The Ragin’ Cajuns are currently 5-4 with two games to go. Florida has won all five of their games against Sun Belt teams since the conference originated in 2001.
Louisiana Cajuns are the favorite to beat Florida State. The Seminoles have the best record against the spread in the conference this season.
Virginia Tech (2-8) and Liberty (8-2) are playing each other at noon ET. Virginia Tech has lost six of its last seven games, including to Duke. Liberty is enjoying another successful season under head coach Hugh Freeze.
Liberty is receiving 95% of bets in this game. Virginia Tech is a 9.5-point favorite. The Hokies have covered only twice in eight games this season.
Duke (7-3) is looking to tie their best win total since 2013 with an upset win in Pittsburgh (3-4). Riley Leonard, the Blue Devil quarterback, has won his last three conference games. Pittsburgh's defense is top three in the ACC with 21 turnovers gained. The Panthers beat Virginia Tech 37-7 last week. Israel Abanikanda returned from a one-game absence to run for 121 yards and one touchdown.
Boston College (3-7) is coming off a 21-20 road upset over the then No. 16 Wolfpack. The Eagles scored a game-winning touchdown with 14 seconds remaining. Notre Dame (7-3) has won four straight games and is averaging nearly 40 points a match.
Boston College is favored by 21 points over Notre Dame. The Eagles have found success under new quarterback Morehead. Notre Notre Irish have the best defense among FBS Independent teams.
Miami (5-5) is looking for a bowl game upset against No. 9 Clemson (9-1). The Hurricanes beat Georgia Tech 35-14 last weekend. Clemson beat Louisville 31-16 last Saturday. The Tigers nearly tripled their rushing total from the loss to Notre Dame by posting 248 yards against an in-form Louisville defense.
Jacurri Brown's performance against the second-worst defense in the conference was encouraging. Clemson will be motivated to make this one ugly in their last ditch effort to reach the CFB playoff.
NC State (7-3) is coming off their worst game of the season in the form of a last-second 21-20 heartbreaker loss to Boston College. The Wolfpack secondary continues to feast with two interceptions as they continue to lead the ACC with 16 interceptions. Louisville fell flat in their hardest test of this season last weekend in a 31-16 defeat to Clemson. Malik Cunningham suffered a shoulder sprain and was replaced by Tyler Hudson.
Louisville's defense is second in college football with 27 turnovers. Backup quarterback Brock Domann will have to match giveaways by backup quarterback Morris. Dom Mann won his only start this year.
Georgia Tech (4-6) needs to beat the ACC Coastal champion North Carolina (9-1) to make a bowl game in December. Georgia Tech lost to Miami 35-14 last week. North Carolin won a thriller over the Demon Deacons 34-33.
Georgia Tech is favored to cover the three-point spread against North Carolina. The Tar Heels' defense is the biggest concern for the Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech's defense has allowed 460 yards per game this season.
