There aren’t many people more important to a football team than a head coach and a quarterback, which represent the two biggest question marks for Tulane ahead of their bowl game.

Head coach Willie Fritz recently accepted the job to become Houston‘s next head football coach following eight seasons at the helm for the Green Wave. He took the program to unprecedented heights, leading the team to a 12–2 record last season capped off with a Cotton Bowl appearance and victory, which he followed by leading Tulane to an 11-2 finish this season.

It’s still unknown if he will be on the sidelines for Tulane’s bowl game, which is also the case for quarterback Michael Pratt, the AAC’s Offensive Player of the Year who’s regarded as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks that could forgo the Military Bowl ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Virginia Tech returns to a bowl game after missing out last season in their second season with head coach Brent Pry, finishing the regular season strong with wins in four of their last six games to reach the six-win mark.

Strong performances on the offensive ball fueled the Hokies’ late-season stretch of success, averaging 33.6 points per game in their last six games. During that stretch quarterback Kyron Drones has gotten the job done with his arm and his legs, ending the season with 1,993 yards in the air, 642 yards on the ground, and 19 total touchdowns after taking over as the starter in VT’s third game of the season.

Both teams have also had impressive standouts on the defensive side of the ball, highlighted by Tulane defensive back Lance Robinson who tied the conference lead with four interceptions on the season and the Hokies’ defensive lineman Antwaun Powell-Ryland who ranked second in the ACC in sacks this season with 9.5.
