Reasoning
The Virginia Tech Hokies and Tulane Green Wave meet in the Military Bowl in Annapolis, Maryland. Throw out the records here, as the 6-6 Hokies are heavy favorites over the Green Wave, or what is left of them. Let’s get right to the point here: maybe no team in the bowl season has been more heavily gutted by the portal and opt-outs than Tulane. Their head coach left for the Houston job, and most of the staff along with him. Tulane will be missing their starting quarterback, 2 wide receivers, their tight end, and 6 starting defenders. My expectations are quite low for the Green Wave in this one.
As far as Virginia Tech is concerned, most of their roster is intact. The Hokies are probably a bit better than their 6-6 record too. They have a top-25 defense in terms of total yards, and they are 9th overall in passing yards allowed. This is a nasty defense, especially when they can put the opponent in a negative game script. I do not anticipate Tulane generating much of anything through the air. The VT offense has been a struggle most of the season, and it is very vanilla and uncreative. But with enough key defenders missing for Tulane, I would anticipate a few blown coverages or mistakes that lead to Hokie scores. This is a big number, but it is hard to imagine Tulane has enough left to hang around in this game. I’ll take the Hokies to cover.
