Warren Gatland's options if WRU block Rob Howley move as loyalty leaves few clear candidates

Warren Gatland is looking for a new coach ahead of the Six Nations. Stephen Jones and Gethin Jenkins have vacated the attack and defence coach roles. Rob Howley worked under Gatlands for the duration of his first stint. Howly was sent home before the 2019 World Cup after breaching betting rules. Some within the WRU are opposed to Howleys return. Mark Jones is the most obvious name beyond Howles. He played for Scarlets and was assistant to Gatlan. He also worked as a backs coach at the Scarlet's. The most recent coaching experience he had was at Rotherham and RGC.

Warren Gatland is considering Rob Howley as his second choice for Wales coach. Roger Randle worked as attack coach under Gatlands for Chiefs and New Zealand Barbarians. Matt Sherratt and Alex King filled in for Howly while he was on Lions duty. Lee Blackett is currently working at the Scarlets. He is a former Wasps head coach and has worked on the west Walians' attack. He has recently signed a contract with the club for the rest of the season. It would be a blow if WRU block Howleys' move. Gatlan has a lot of trust in him.
