Oregon State squares off with Washington in the Beaver’s most eagerly-anticipated game to date, as OSU aims to put a dent in the Huskie’s College Football Playoff odds.

Oregon State faces long, but not impossible, odds to reach the Pac-12 Championship game. If the Beavers top Washington and Oregon in the final two matchups of the season, OSU will punch a ticket to Las Vegas if Arizona loses a game.

The Huskies were a wrecking ball to start the season, crushing everything in their path. Washington has remained undefeated, but not in the dominant fashion everyone expected.

Michael Penix and Co. have scored the fifth-most points in FBS, while the defense is average by Pac-12 standards, surrendering 23 points per game. Utah’s offense is subpar but kept the Utes in the game last week in a 35-28 loss to the Huskies.

The crowd in Corvallis will play a significant role in making communication hard for Washington’s offense. Timely stops would set up D.J. Uiagalelei and the Beavers well to pull off an unforgettable upset.

Expect a shootout at Reser Stadium on Saturday night. The Michael Penix-Rome Odunze connection has been strong for the Huskies, as both rank top-three in yards at their respective positions.

The emergence of Dillon Johnson has added another lethal facet to Washington’s offense. The Mississippi State transfer has rushed for 360 yards and five touchdowns in the previous two games.

Oregon State’s offense has been stellar since Week 6, scoring 40 points per game. In last week’s 62-17 thumping of Stanford, Uiagalelei tossed two touchdowns, and Damien Martinez set season highs, rushing for 146 yards and two touchdowns.

Penix has proven the 2022 season wasn’t a fluke, throwing for 275+ yards in all but one of Washington’s 10 games. In his past four games, Penix has slung less than three touchdowns three times.

Look for that trend to buck if Johnson struggles to move the ball against Oregon State’s stout defense. Making Johnson ineffective would force the Huskies to rely solely on Penix.

Based on the Beavers offensive hot streak, Penix will need a strong showing to keep Washington’s CFP hopes intact.
