Week 7 G5 College Football Best Bets

I’m getting closer to a quality week of betting. After a 1-4 week a couple of weeks ago, I went 3-2 on my Group of Five best bets last week. The two losses were half a point from pushing. I’ll take it!

On the season, I’m 15-17-1. That’s not great, but we’re one strong week away from feeling much better about ourselves. Let’s see if I can finally hit a 5-0 week.

Time to dive through the college football betting odds to find five winners.

This might be my favorite bet of the weekend, as these two teams combined to score 83 points in their 2022 meeting. While there are some personnel changes on both sides, the schemes are largely the same. 

Georgia Southern’s pass-heavy attack will push the Dukes’ secondary, the team’s biggest defensive weakness. On the other side of the ball, JMU’s offense should find success against an inconsistent Georgia Southern defense. I wouldn’t be shocked to see 70 points scored on Saturday.  

Don’t let Fresno State’s loss to Wyoming sour your thoughts on the Bulldogs. Winning in Laramie is remarkably hard – just ask Texas Tech and App State. 

As for Utah State, I’m not sold on the Aggies. I think they’ll threaten for bowl eligibility this year, but the offense goes through lulls and the defense is average. I like Fresno State to bounce back with a double-digit road victory. 

I love Air Force’s team, and I think the Falcons might be the best Group of Five team in the country. But they’re double-digit favorites over Wyoming?? That spread feels insane to me, given how strong Wyoming has looked against numerous quality opponents. 

Air Force has dominated inferior foes, while Wyoming has won close contests against good teams. I expect a close game on Saturday.

Who doesn’t love to bet on midweek CUSA games? While Sam Houston is still winless, I think K.C. Keeler has his team engaged in the pursuit of their first 2023 win. The Bearkats nearly took down Jacksonville State two weeks ago, and they were close to defeating Liberty last week. 

Sam Houston is getting better, and it’s only a matter of time before it finally wins a game. Why not this week?

I was high on Memphis earlier this year – and I still like the Tigers – but I’m not sold on them being the AAC’s best team. I think Tulane is the AAC’s best, and I think this victory reminds those following the Group of Five that the Green Wave are still a favorite to earn a New Year’s Six Bowl berth.
