With CFP expanding to 12 teams, here are the top-12 teams in college football per betting odds

With the College Football Playoff expanding to 12 teams this year, let's take a look at the top-12 teams in the country per the betting odds to win the 2024 national championship. It will also be interesting to look back and see how many of the teams on this list actually made the first iteration of the 12-team CFP. (For clarity, the CFP Board of Managers will meet this week to determine how many automatic berths and how many automatic bids will be doled out. The general consensus is that they will move to a 5+7 format, meaning there will be five automatic berths and seven at-large bids. This will also include the highest-ranked conference champion from the Group of 5.)

** Georgia checks in at the top spot with odds of +360 to win the national title. The Bulldogs won back-to-back crowns in 2021-22 and their only loss last season was to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. So, while I would argue the next team on this list has the stronger roster, it's easy to see why UGA is the betting favorite. And they have a loaded roster themselves.

** Not far behind the Bulldogs is Ohio State, which has odds of +425 to win the national championship. The Buckeyes' offseason has been nothing short of spectacular thus far, both in terms of acquiring talent, retaining talent and building a better coaching staff. It is definitely shaping up to be a fun year in Columbus as the Buckeyes appear to have all the necessary parts to win it all. That doesn't mean that they will, but they are unquestionably one of the strongest contenders in the land. Just look at how close those odds are between Georgia and OSU. Then there is quite a jump to the third team on the list.

** Texas checks in with the third-lowest odds to win the 2024 national championship at +800. Quarterback Quinn Ewers led the Longhorns to the CFP last year. Can he get them over the hump this season?

** Tied for fourth-lowest odds to win the national title are Alabama and Oregon at +1200. It is going to be very interesting to see how Kalen DeBoer does replacing Nick Saban. They say you don't want to be the coach who replaces a legend. Well, DeBoer isn't just replacing a legend, he's replacing the greatest college football coach ever. As for Oregon, the Ducks are entering the Big Ten stacked with talent and an early-season matchup between Ohio State and Oregon in Eugene will be entertaining. And given the fact that the Ducks have the second-best odds in the Big Ten to win the national championship, we could see a rematch between the Buckeyes and Oregon in the Big Ten Championship Game.

** Ole Miss returns a lot of starters and Lane Kiffin's crew has the sixth-lowest odds in the country to win the CFP crown at +1300.

** Next up is another SEC squad, the Brian Kelly-led LSU Tigers at +1400.

Here is the complete top-12:

1. Georgia +360.

2. Ohio State +425.

3. Texas +800.

4. Alabama and Oregon +1200.

6. Ole Miss +1300.

7. LSU +1500.

8. Michigan +1600.

9. Florida State +2200.

10. Notre Dame +2500.

11. Clemson and Penn State +3000.
