Dover Motor Speedway

Dover, DE

The Wurth 400 is being hosted by Dover Motor Speedway this week and it's the only time NASCAR will be racing in Delaware on the concrete oval this season. For many years, Dover Motor Speedway hosted two races a year, but due to reshuffling and schedule changes, that was changed to just once a year last season. This track has earned the moniker, "Monster Mile", and it did so for good reason. This track can be called a giant sized Bristol Motor Speedway with a similar track surface and banking all within a one mile oval. While this track produces speeds of over 160 mph, it feels much like a short track. The high speeds are derived from the 24 degrees of banking in all of the turns mixed with the incredible grip that the concrete surface provides the drivers.

This track is really exciting and provides fun side by side racing that is pleasing to all race fans. Many drivers have shown us over the course of racing this track that to "tame the monster" drivers will have to compete with a blend of patience and aggression. With this being the only race at Dover this season, drivers will have a steep learning curve this weekend and many will be learning on the fly. The teams and drivers that can make the best adjustments when the race starts will have a great shot at going home as the winner.

Geico 500 Recap

Seems this NASCAR season has rewarded those who take risks. Last week, Joey Logano benefited from skipping a pit stop late in the race last week and Las Vegas native, Kyle Busch, was also the recipient of some good luck when he decided to stay on the race track instead of pitting in a pair of overtime restarts. With the decision to sit out of the round of pit stops, Busch had just enough in the tank to get across the finish line. It was a big decision that could have haunted him, but in this case, it ended up being a great decision.

Busch and Bubba Wallace went back and fourth during the final two laps of the race. That was until Wallace was clipped by Ryan Blaney causing Walalce to turn sideways, hit a wall and cause and accident that took out many drivers towards the end of the race. The win for Busch marked his second win of the NASCAR season and number 62 for his illustrious career.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

With the victory at Talladega, Kyle Busch put himself in second place with 290 points, right behind the leader in Kyle Larson who has 295 points on the young season. Third place is held by William Byron who also has two wins on the season with 245 points. Holding down the last two spots of the top five in this playoff race is Christopher Bell with 331 points and Tyler Reddick with 286 points. Seven drivers now have a win this season with plenty of space for other drivers to secure their spots in the hunt for the NASCAR Cup.
