Yankees vs Braves Prediction

The Atlanta Braves host the New York Yankees for game one of their interleague series this Monday from Truist Park on the MLB Network.

Yankees Preview & Projected Starter

New York moved to 60-58 after dropping two of three to Miami. The Yankees let the Marlins steal game three with five runs in the fifth, and they’ll now have to turn their attention to the Braves, who just finished bullying their fellow NY squad in Queens.  The New York offense is scoring 3.87 runs per game, while batting .230, with a .300 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.87 ERA, with a 1.25 WHIP.

Clarke Schmidt (8-6, 4.23 ERA, 110 Ks) will get the ball for New York in game one. The third-year righty came through with another steady outing in the Southside last week, striking out seven through 5.1 innings, while holding the White Sox to one run en route to his eighth victory. Schmidt has delivered reliability each time out since the beginning of June, as he hasn’t dropped a decision or allowed more than three runs in each of his last thirteen starts.

  • Aaron Judge has scored a run in five of the previous six games, and he’s leading the Yanks in batting (.281) and homers (22), with 45 RBI.
  • Giancarlo Stanton has totaled multiple bases in three of his last four games, and he’s posting a line of .206/18/45.

Braves Preview & Projected Starter

Atlanta moved to 75-42 after taking three of four from New York. The Braves were up-ended in the season finale, and they’ll look to get back into the win column here Monday. The Atlanta offense is scoring 3.83 runs per game, while batting .270, with a .339 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.67 ERA, with a 1.26 WHIP.

Max Fried (3-1, 2.50 ERA, 37 Ks) will get the start for Atlanta. The seventh-year lefty had a tough time in Pittsburgh last week, allowing four runs to the Pirates in four innings pitched, but he avoided the losing decision. Fried looked great in his return last week at Wrigley against the Cubs (6 IP, 8 K, W), and this will mark his first home start since May.

Braves Player Trends & Props

  • Matt Olson continues to be the gift that just keeps giving, as he’s produced a run in seven of the last ten games, while homering four times in the last five. Olson leads the majors in home runs (43) and RBI (107).
  • Ronald Acuna Jr. has recorded a hit in seven of the previous ten games, and he’s leading Atlanta in batting (.337) and hits (156), with 26 HR and 71 RBI.
  • Ozzie Albies went off and plated six runs in the massive game two victory in Queens, and he’s averaging strong splits of .267/28/90.
  • Austin Riley has totaled multiple bases in five of the last six games, and he’s posting a nice line of .280/28/75.

Atlanta Braves Team Facts

  • The Braves have lost four of their last five games as favorites against AL East opponents following a road loss.
  • The Braves have failed to cover the run line 14 of their last 16 games at Truist Park against AL East opponents that held a winning record.

Corey’s Free Pick

Atlanta’s trip to NYC ended on a sour note, and I think they make things right Monday night with a win over the Yanks. Max Fried and Clarke Schmidt should be a good matchup on the hill, and with the latter set to make his first home start since April, look for him to come out pumped and ready to deal. The Braves should be able to provide him with the necessary run support, and after completing a long ten-game road trip, they should be excited to play at home as well. Back Atlanta for this interleague battle.
