Eight races will be run and won at Caulfield on Thursday for a twilight meeting. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is out ten metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (15:20) Become An Mrc Member Mdn Plate 1100m

Back Me

10 Unconquerable (Bet Now:$2.05) is on the short side in early betting but there is a reason for that. This filly has looked very sharp in a couple of jumpout wins at Cranbourne to get ready for start one, so understandab;e why she’s around even money. Should land in a plum spot from the inside gate and prove hard to beat.

Danger

3 Flying Mean (Bet Now:$6.50) is a coming maiden winner for Clinton McDonald. He was met with good market support when debuting at The Valley but unfortunately for his fans, he did a bit too much work on speed and tired late when third to Oak Hill. He’ll take good improvement from that outing into this and outside the favourite, the race is thin.

Long Shot

1 Current King (Bet Now:$34.00) would be a moral in a country maiden. Formerly with Michael Freedman, he had his first run for Peter Smith in a Ballarat maiden when near the speed and fought on quite gamely in defeat when third to Degreeofdifficulty. That was his first run in just under two years so with room for improvement, he is a must for multiples.

Race 2. (16:00) Mrc Foundation Mdn Plate 1600m

Back Me

8 Sweet Jasmine (Bet Now:$3.40) on top but not really a maiden I want to get involved in. Price/Kent trained filly that debuted over 1400m at Pakenham and she was one of the eye catchers of the meeting I thought, closing off with purpose from off the speed to run second. She’ll love the rise to 1600m and despite drawing tricky, I think she is the one with the most upside/progression.

Danger

6 O’Caldino (Bet Now:$2.70) looks like a three year old that will race best at 2000m+. Maher/Eustace trains and he stays at the mile after racing at the trip at The Valley last time when back and forced wide to make his run but he kept finding the line in a pretty good effort behind Grand Touraine. If he gets luck from the barrier, he’ll be around the mark.

Long Shot

9 Tarvue (Bet Now:$5.00) is a definite winning chance. John Sadler trained filly that has looked a type that will love more ground, with both career runs seeing her catch the eye, the latest over 1500m at Sandown when back and making up solid headway without threatening. If she can use the gate to advantage and settle closer, she’s dangerous.

Race 3. (16:40) The Big Screen Company (Bm70) 1400m

Back Me

6 Angel Down (Bet Now:$5.00) on top for me. GaiBott trained filly that comes to Victoria off the back of a debut win over 1400m at Scone where she led throughout and although challenged early, she found plenty and was actually quite dominant late, winning by a space and running good late splits. Should find the front comfortably here, potentially get control and take running down.

Danger

4 So Glamorous (Bet Now:$3.10) is a filly for Grahame Begg that I have time for. Bit of quality about her debut win at Ballarat before going to The Valley where she stayed at 1200m and just looked lost around the tight track, but kept on, only beaten narrowly. Heading in the right direction and I do think getting to 1400m is a big tick.

Long Shot

1 Bold Soul (Bet Now:$5.50) is a knockout hope. Patrick Payne trains this son of Embellish, that debuted over 1350m at Donald where he gave them a start and a beating, letting down with purpose from off the speed and drew clear late for a sharp debut win. Good test here against some likely types, but he might just well be a likely type himself.

Race 4. (17:20) Senet Gambling Law Experts (Bm64) 1400m

Back Me

6 Miss Jenni Lynn (Bet Now:$6.50) is unknown at 1400m but off the first up run, she should appreciate it. She resumed over 1200m at The Valley where she got back to near last in the run and while she was never a threat, she did make up ground in a very encouraging return behind impressive winner No Drama. Like her up to 1400m on the bigger track and strikes a winnable race.

Danger

1 Masterful (Bet Now:$4.80) has returned in super order and rates highly. He last ran at the midweeks at Sandown where he was back off the speed and kept finding the line in a pretty good effort, finishing third to South Of Houston, who I think would be odds on here, so that form does read well, maps ideally and is a proven weight carrier.

Long Shot

11 Tactfull (Bet Now:$13.00) will jump near the speed and give a sight I am sure. His latest run was over 1400m at Sandown on Nov 22 when on speed throughout and he tried her guts out but couldn’t quite get the win when second to a quality type, Belmia. Good racing style and will give a sight…not sure he wins but can run top four.

Race 5. (18:00) Tile Importer (Bm70) 1600m

Back Me

6 Jenniferwish (Bet Now:$5.00) is the way I am leaning. This mare steps up to the mile after racing over 1400m at Sandown where she got a fair way out of her ground but I did like the way she found the line late behind Belmia, finishing fourth. If she can use the inside gate to advantage and settle closer, up in trip, she’ll take beating.

Danger

Staying at the mile I find interesting with 2 Hanaady (Bet Now:$8.50) but she looks to have returned in pretty good order. She resumed at Ballarat where she got back to near last in the run and made up solid headway in the straight when third to Cadazio. She is a previous second up winner who can settle on speed and if she is ridden with intent here, she’ll be hard to get past.

Long Shot

3 Proscenium Arch (Bet Now:$10.00) is the class of the field and that will carry her a long way. This mare resumed in the Pendant on Cranbourne Cup Day where she just looked in need of the run and didn’t finish her race off at all behind impressive winner Revolutionary Miss. Back to this level and up in trip, she can run a much improved race.

Race 6. (18:30) Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives (Bm64) 1600m

Back Me

10 Interlinked (Bet Now:$6.00) should appreciate a rise to the mile for Busuttin/Young. This three year old resumed over 1450m on Kilmore Cup Day where he gave them a start and a beating, sitting back before slicing his way through the field and he got better as the race went on, drawing clear late for a dominant win. Looks a race in two and I think he should be much closer in betting.

Danger

11 Socks Nation (Bet Now:$2.25) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to run down. This filly has steadily got better with racing, culminating with a spank job win at Sandown over 1500m when leading throughout and she spanked them, winning by over five lengths. Two winners have already come out of the race so a tick in that regard, she’ll roll forward and take running down.

Long Shot

5 Galactic Fury (Bet Now:$12.00) doesn’t win out of turn but maps ideally and can pinch a first four spot. He ran over 1500m at Sandown where he seemingly had every chance from just off the speed but couldn’t quite finish the race off behind Free To Move. Maps ideally again…doubt he wins but he is a must for exotics.

Race 7. (19:00) Nick Johnstone Real Estate (Bm64) 2000m

Back Me

10 Uniquely (Bet Now:$31.00) is worth a throw at the stumps at odds. She comes through the Sea Speedwell race from Sandown over 2100m where she got back in the run and made up minimal headway in a race dominated by those on speed. She’s hard to catch at times but she maps to do no work in the run, be strong late and she’s in so well after the claim.

Danger

2 Slate (Bet Now:$5.00) has come back in super order for Matt Cumani and commands respect. He loved the step up in trip when winning over 2040m at The Valley last time, landing on speed and despite being challenged in the straight, he was quite strong to the line in winning. Tricky draw, but should press forward and if he gets across, he just about becomes #1 seed.

Long Shot

8 Dublin Journal (Bet Now:$16.00) is an honest animal for Team Hayes that should be around the mark. He ran over 2040m at The Valley last start where he was game in defeat after being near the speed. Just lacked the change up speed to go with them late when third to Kailash. Maps okay once again and is a must for multiples.

Race 8. (19:30) Take It To The Neds Level (Bm64) 1100m

Back Me

10 Cadenabbia (Bet Now:$9.50) for me. Nigel Blackiston trained mare that returned with a bang over 1100m at Bendigo, giving them a start and a beating, launching late to finish over the top for a big win. The inside gate can be tricky given she is a get back/run on type, but if the breaks go her way, she can launch over the top.

Danger

12 Zabeelist (Bet Now:$5.50) should appreciate a rise to 1100m. Both runs this time in have come over 1000m, the latest being at Ballarat where she was run off her legs it seemed and only got warm late in the piece when fourth to Imapagethree Girl. Up to 1100m, jockey upgrade, can settle near the speed and be strong at the end.

Long Shot

5 Plus Fours (Bet Now:$8.50) is capable with his best. Phillip Stokes trained gelding that resumed over 1000m at Pakenham where he was near the speed throughout and tried his guts out but being first up, condition just gave way late in the piece behind Cavallo Rampante. Fitter, up in trip, he’s dangerous in a race that is winnable for him with his best.
