Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh has reportedly been handed an in-house suspension for the first three games of the 2023 college football season for allegedly lying to NCAA officials investigating potential recruiting violations.

We're taking a look at how this development has changed the Big Ten odds and Michigan futures for the upcoming season.

2023 Michigan regular season odds: Wolverines Big Ten odds (+180 or better) and win totals

Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh has reportedly been handed an in-house suspension for the first three games of the 2023 college football season for allegedly lying to NCAA officials investigating potential recruiting violations.

2023 Michigan odds: Are Michigan CFP odds, win total picks impacted by Harbaugh’s absence?

Michigan is second in odds to win the Big Ten at +180, with Ohio State the narrow favorite at +165. Penn State is still third behind those two.

The line for Michigan’s win total also remains unchanged at 10.5. They have 12 regular-season games on their schedule.

Although the loss of the head coach is a serious deal, UM is still a massive favorite in all of its first three games – though there is slightly more parity on the spread than there was before the announcement.

All three of those games will take place in Ann Arbor and are against East Carolina, UNLV and Bowling Green.

Michigan CFP odds (+850 or better)

Michigan has the fourth-best odds to win the CFP, right behind Ohio State (+700) and in front of LSU (+1200). They've got solid odds, but the real test comes at the tail end of the season.

The Wolverines have to play Penn State on the road and then tangle with Ohio State in the regular-season finale.

They’ll probably have to go undefeated in the regular season and lose in the Big Ten Championship Game or lose one game, beat Ohio State, and then win the conference title to make the CFP.

They can basically guarantee a spot with an undefeated season.

Big Ten odds 2023: How does Harbaugh’s suspension impact Ohio State odds, Penn State odds and others?

Betting lines for the Big Ten title have fluctuated, with both Michigan and Ohio state enjoying time atop the odds list at different online sportsbooks.

If Michigan drops one of the early season games, Ohio State will likely jump to a minus-money favorite.

Penn State (+600) and Wisconsin (+950 to win the Big Ten) will also shorten in odds to win the conference, provided they win their early games.

Iowa at +1200 is the only other team that will take a noticeable step forward if Michigan does end up losing early on.

Ohio State Big Ten odds (+165 or better)

If both Michigan and Ohio State go undefeated into their end-of-season encounter, the winner of that matchup will probably be selected for the CFP.

However, if Michigan ends up losing one of the three games without Harbaugh, they’ll most likely have to beat Ohio State and win the conference championship.

Penn State Big Ten odds (+650 or better)

Penn State has not been on the same level as its two conference foes in recent years, but is poised to step up with the talent on its roster.

There’s still a degree of separation between them and OSU and UM, but an early Michigan loss could see them potentially leapfrog to second in odds to win the Big Ten, especially since they get the Wolverines at home later.

Wisconsin Big Ten odds (+900 or better)

Wisconsin is fourth in odds to win the Big Ten but is the favorite in the West Division. That means that they are expected to face one of Michigan, Ohio State, or Penn State in the Big Ten Championship Game.

If they had their pick, they would probably prefer to face Ohio State because they have more question marks on the offensive line, while Wisconsin has a veteran defense and coach Luke Fickell on the sideline.
