Texas Rangers

The Rangers lost to the Pirates 6-4 in the Monday opener, but they were able to bounce back for wins 6-1 Tuesday and 3-2 in game three. In the finale, Texas starter Martin Perez had a nice outing with 7.0 innings, two earned, six hits and two walks.

For the starter job on Friday the Rangers will turn to Jon Gray. In his nine starts so far Gray is 4-1 with a 3.02 ERA and 38 Ks in 50.2 innings. Gray is 64-57 with a 4.43 career ERA in 185 games (184 starts).

Baltimore Orioles

Over on the Orioles’ side, they lost to the Yankees 6-5 in their series opener this week then took a 9-6 win in game two. In the Thursday rubber match Baltimore took the series with a 3-1 victory. Kyle Gibson lasted 7.0 frames in the starting role with two hits and four walks.

As starter for the Orioles on Friday it’ll be Grayson Rodriguez. Over nine starts this year (the first nine of his MLB career), Rodriguez is 2-1 with a 6.21 ERA and 50 strikeouts over 42.0 frames.

The Rangers are 4-1 in their last five road games and 18-44 in their last 62 Friday games. Texas is 17-42 in their last 59 versus the AL East.

Meanwhile, the Orioles are 12-5 in their last 17 at home and 23-8 in their last 31 versus the AL West. Baltimore is 20-6 in their last 26 Friday games.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stay with Texas. Gray is on a nice run right now. In his last three starts combined he’s 3-0 with 20.0 combined innings, two earned, 12 hits and four walks total. The Rangers offense is working nicely these days as well, with three or more runs in eight straight games. A quality start from Gray and a handful of runs from the offense in the early-going should put Texas in a winning position here.
