Betting tips for Preston vs Tottenham: FA Cup preview and odds

Tottenham continue their FA Cup campaign with a fourth-round tie away at Preston North End, who are currently mid-table in the Championship.

Antonio Conte’s men have been out of form lately but they did secure an important 1-0 win away at Fulham on Monday evening to bolster their top-four ambitions in the Premier League.

Now though, the FA Cup awaits with fans desperate to end their 15-year wait for a trophy. They face a trip to the north-west to face an inconsistent Preston side who are 11th in the second tier, although they are only two points off the play-offs and, as such, may look to prioritise the league.

Spurs set to ease to victory

This has not been a vintage season for Spurs and Conte is indeed coming under pressure from certain quarters for the perceived negative style of football associated with his teams.

However, Monday’s win at Fulham – who are enjoying a wonderful season and defying expectations – will have certainly bought Conte some more time.

The next task is Preston and Spurs should feel confident of getting a result at Deepdale.

Last year, they were beaten away at Championship outfit Middlesbrough but that is their only FA Cup defeat to lower-league opposition in the past ten years.

With Spurs eager to win a trophy, Conte looks set to play a fairly strong team and they face a Preston side who are likely to be more focused on their bid for a Championship play-off place.

Goalscoring has been the biggest issue for Ryan Lowe’s side this season. With 26 goals they have by far the weakest attack in the top half of the Championship table.

Spurs’ solidity should help shut their hosts out and allow them to advance to the fifth round.

Kane eyes Greaves’ record

Harry Kane’s lovely right-foot curling just before half-time in Monday’s win at Fulham took him level with the legendary Jimmy Greaves as the highest goalscorer in the club’s history.

It was his 266th goal for Spurs and now he has a golden opportunity to become immortal in the eyes of Spurs fans history when they face Preston.

If it wasn’t for Erling Haaland’s crazily good record at Manchester City then everyone would be raving about Kane’s goalscoring form this season.

The England skipper has bagged 18 goals in 29 games across all competitions for his club this season and his recent form has been very good, with five in seven since returning from the World Cup.

Patience key for Premier League side

A noticeable pattern of Spurs’ play this season has been their failure to make fast starts in games. They tend to thrive in the latter stages of games.

Since their 1-0 win at Brighton in early October, Spurs have played 12 games in the top flight and scored 20 times. Remarkably, only four of those have come in the first half of games and three of those were after the 44th minute.

Preston are likely to set themselves up quite defensively to frustrate Spurs and that has generally been the best area of their game this season. They have kept 12 clean sheets in 28 league games.

However, Spurs know they have the fitness levels to carry on playing through the whole 90 minutes and the second half may see them let the handbrake loose.
