Make do and mend for Ange

Monday night’s match against Chelsea could not have gone much worse for Tottenham Hotspur, the surprise package of the Premier League season.

Thrashed 4-1 at home by their bitter rivals, they had two key men sent off and two more injured, leaving head coach Ange Postecoglou with five days to patch them up, pick a team and see if they can get back on the horse after enduring their first league defeat of 2023-24.

The Australian is struggling for numbers. Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie are suspended and Micky van de Ven crocked, so he must replace three first-choice defenders at Molineux.

Ryan Sessegnon, Ivan Perisic, Richarlison and Manor Solomon are also out and Postecoglou will be praying that James Maddison recovers from the knock that led to him limping off against Chelsea.

However you look at it, Wolves have a golden opportunity to land the odds and are worth backing, perhaps in the draw no bet market. They had been in decent nick until last week’s unlikely 2-1 loss at Sheffield United, who won for the first time this season.

Before that Wolves had been on a four-game unbeaten streak, hardly a record-breaking run but impressive when you consider three of their four opponents were Manchester City (who they beat), Aston Villa and Newcastle United, the last two ending in draws.

Wolves vs Tottenham tip 1: Over 3.5 goals @ 15/8 with Paddy Power

Game of two halves on cards

Six times in 11 league games this season Wolves have gone in at half-time 0-0 – and not one of those games has ended goalless. Indeed, those games have produced a total of 14 second-half goals.

That is the Wolves way this season. Set up properly and efficiently by manager Gary O’Neil, the first halves of their matches have produced a total of seven goals, the second halves a total of 26.

Throw in the potential for more stoppage time under this season’s directive, that one or other of these sides may be chasing the game and that Spurs are fresh from a defeat in which three goals came after the 75th minute, and evens on the second 45 being the highest-scoring half stands out.

Wolves vs Tottenham tip 2: Half With Most Goals – Second Half @ Evs with Paddy Power

Include Dawson in bet builder

Craig Dawson is averaging a foul a game and he can maintain that record by chalking up at least one against Spurs. The veteran centre-back is enjoying a great season but he will be tested to the hilt by the pace and movement of Son Heung-min and the rest of Spurs front line.

Have Dawson to commit one foul or more as the first leg of a bet builder that will also include Spurs committing 11 or more fouls. They average just over that number per game and a new-look defence will be tested away from home.

With six goals to his name, complete the Bet Builder with Hwang Hee-chan having one shot or more on target, the treble working out at just over 7/2.

Wolves vs Tottenham tip 3: Bet builder - Craig Dawson one or more fouls, Hwang Hee-Chan one or more shots on target and Spurs to commit 11 or more fouls @ 7/2 with Paddy Power
