British Grand Prix 2023 Predictions, Odds & Picks

If you are a Max Verstappen or a Red Bull Racing fan, then you likely will have enjoyed how much of the last season-plus has played out, especially recently. But if you are not, then you will likely be hoping upon hope that Sunday’s British Grand Prix will produce a welcome new winner.

With last Sunday’s triumph at the Austrian Grand Prix, Red Bull’s home race, Verstappen has now won five consecutive races. The win at the Red Bull Ring was his seventh win in nine races this season, the 42nd in his Formula 1 career, and his 22nd in 31 races since the start of last season.

Will he make it six in a row on Sunday at Silverstone? As is expected at this point, Verstappen is a heavy favorite to cross the finish line first.

Will he back that up and surpass last season’s five-race win streak?

Also, where is the betting value to be found for this week’s showdown at Silverstone? In a sport in which there is a huge favorite to win each week, it may feel like you sometimes have to search high and low and break out your magnifying glass to find the betting value. But that’s part of why I’m here, so keep reading for my British Grand Prix picks.

British Grand Prix Predictions and Picks

Relative to some other races, like the Canadian Grand Prix or Monaco Grand Prix, last week’s race in Austria was actually competitive.

Verstappen didn’t lead every single lap of the race, which we hadn’t seen since the Miami Grand Prix. The eventual outcome was inevitable, but it was nice to have a semblance of drama up front for the first time in a few races.

Should we expect more Verstappen dominance at the British Grand Prix? Based on what he and his car are doing at present, Verstappen is likely to win and win by quite a few seconds, unless something goes wrong with his car.

Prior to the Austrian Grand Prix, I might have said this week would be the week that Lewis Hamilton could pick up his first win in over a year and a half.

But after finishing fourth (Monaco GP), second (Spanish GP), and third (Canadian GP) in consecutive races and giving some hints that a win could very well be around the corner, his car took a major step back at the Red Bull Ring, where he had an absolutely terrible, no good, very bad day.

With there being a quick turnaround due to back-to-back race weeks, does Mercedes have the time to fix what went wrong before the British Grand Prix?

This is his (and George Russell’s) home race, a race that he has won a record eight times (three more than anyone else in F1 history), and he will want to bounce back in a big way. I love a good comeback story, so I am backing him at evens to at least finish on the podium.

Speaking of rebounding, Sergio Perez had one in Austria, which was a perfectly timed race if there ever was one. Had he finished poorly in Red Bull’s home race, his future prospects might have started clearing up, and not in a good way.

Instead, he moved his way through the field after starting 11th and landed on the podium for the first time since the Miami Grand Prix, finishing third behind Verstappen and Leclerc.

Will he pick up another positive result at the British Grand Prix? He is -175 to finish in the top two and -140 to finish in the top three, neither of which is appealing enough to me to recommend.

One pick I do quite like this week is Lando Norris to finish in the top six. After finishing in the sixth and seventh in the standings in the past two seasons, this has been a pretty miserable season for Norris.

Entering the Austrian Grand Prix, he had finished in the top six only once in the first eight races this season. But he finished fourth at the Red Bull Ring and is good value (+110) to finish in the top six again this week at what is also his home race, if last week’s result is indeed a positive sign for the rest of the season and not a one-off.
