Championship table-toppers Burnley are closing in on the signing of Anderlecht winger Enock Agyei, but the teenager will not arrive at Turf Moor until the start of the 2023-24 season.

That is according to Belgian publication Het Nieuwsblad, who claim that the 18-year-old has come to an agreement with the Clarets as his contract at Anderlecht is set to expire at the end of the current season.

Burnley head coach Vincent Kompany has already raided his former club for midfielder Josh Cullen earlier in the season, and now he has put the framework in place to bring another talent from the 34-time Belgian Pro League champions to Lancashire.

Agyei is yet to make his senior debut for Anderlecht, but he has been a regular for their B team – RSCA Futures – in the second tier of Belgian football this season.

The wide player has played 17 times this season, scoring four goals, and is also a Belgium youth international having played for both their under-18’s and under-19’s in 2022.

The Verdict

Agyei is clearly one for the future, but the fact he’s performing already regularly at second-tier level in Belgium, which isn’t too bad of a standard, suggests he may be ready for senior football in England sooner rather than later.

The winger is clearly a talent if he’s playing for Belgium at under-18 and 19 level, and Kompany has had splendid success in the transfer market of his home nation since his appointment at Turf Moor.

Furthermore, Kompany will know all about Agyei from his time as Anderlecht manager, so he will know first-hand if he’s got the abilities to develop into a star for the Clarets.

Snagging Agyei away on a free from next season appears to be very good business, especially with clubs like PSV Eindhoven interested in him – Burnley fans must now wait for official confirmation of the move before getting too excited though.
