Cincinnati Reds land 7th overall pick in first ever MLB Draft Lottery
The new MLB Draft Lottery system is a way to try to stem the wave of mass tanking across the league. The Cincinnati Reds finished with the 4th worst overall record last season and got overall pick #7. They are getting punished for being intentionally bad and unlucky. The higher the team's overall bonus pool, the higher slot value that gets factored in to the overall pool. It's a good idea to give the 1st overall draft pick to a team that won't be rebuilding. However, it's not a great idea if it prolongs the process.
