Cleveland Guardians vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction 8-9-23 MLB Picks

The Toronto Blue Jays and the Cleveland Guardians meet Wednesday in MLB action from Progressive Field. This will be the third installment in a four-game series. The Blue Jays took a two-run win in the opener, then on Tuesday Cleveland evened it up with a tight victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays didn’t score until the eighth inning in the Monday opener but ultimately came away with a 3-1 win. Cavan Biggio had a two-run homer, and George Springer added an RBI. On Tuesday Toronto out-hit the Guardians 9-3 but couldn’t cash in during a rough 1-0 loss. Whit Merrifield had three hits, and Vladimir Guerrero went 2-for-4.

Kevin Gausman will be the Wednesday pitcher for the Blue Jays. Over 22 starts this year Gausman is 8-6 with a 3.20 ERA and 177 Ks in 132.0 innings. Gausman has gone 2-3 with a 3.66 ERA over his last seven starts.

Over on the Cleveland side, they could only muster the one run on five team hits Monday, ruining a great start (7.0 innings; 12 Ks; one hit; one walk) from Gavin Williams. In the Tuesday matchup the Guardians got a second-inning RBI from Ramon Laureano, plated by Oscar Gonzalez. Brayan Rocchio was the only other Cleveland player with a hit.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll stick with the Blue Jays in this one. Both starters could use a good showing, though. Gausman exited after 4.1 innings and three earned runs in his last start versus a good Orioles team, but he gave up just one earned in 6.0 innings to the Angels in his start prior. As for Allen, he’s coming off two earned in 6.0 innings during his last start, but had surrendered nine earned in his previous 13.0 innings. Anything could happen in game three. On Tuesday Toronto wasted a great start from Yusei Kikuchi (7.0 innings; three hits; one earned; one walk; six Ks) with the offensive futility. It was the first time the Jays have been held scoreless since July 19 though, and I think they’ll get it back in game three.
