Seattle Mariners vs Toronto Blue Jays Prediction 7-22-23 MLB Picks

The Toronto Blue Jays and the Seattle Mariners meet Saturday in MLB action from T-Mobile Park. This will be game two in a three-game weekend series. Friday’s opener featured a thrilling conclusion as the Mariners secured a walk-off win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays stumbled in this week’s series versus the Padres, posting just one combined run in their two losses. The bats picked up on Thursday though; Alejandro Kirk had a 3-for-3 day with two RBI and a homer. On Friday Toronto’s offense was spotty on six hits. Danny Jansen was the only player with an RBI, bagging a solo homer.

It’ll be Kevin Gausman in the starting role for the Jays on Saturday. In his 19 starts so far Gausman is 7-5 with a 3.03 ERA and 153 Ks in 115.2 innings. Gausman took a tough loss to Detroit in his last start July 8 with 6.0 innings and two earned.

Seattle Mariners

Over on the Mariners’ side, they gave up a whopping 22 combined runs in the first three games of the Twins series this week. Seattle posted a quality shutout win in the finale though, thanks in part to Teoscar Hernandez’s two hits and two RBI. On Friday Seattle got the walk-off hit from Teoscar Hernandez, who finished 3-for-5. Ty France and Mike Ford each had an RBI as well.

Logan Gilbert gets the call for the Saturday start in Seattle. Across 19 starts this year Gilbert is 8-5 with a 3.65 ERA and 111 Ks in 113.1 innings. Gilbert is coming off a win over Minnesota with two earned in 5.0 innings on July 17.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m staying with the Mariners in this one. Gilbert is playing very well these days. In his last three starts combined (all victories), Gilbert has just three earned in 21.0 combined innings on 15 hits and just one walk. Gausman has been good himself (five earned in his last 17.0 innings) but he’s been let down by the offense/bullpen lately with an 0-2 record in his last trio. Seattle really broke through in the later innings Friday, notching two runs on three hits and two walks over the last 1.2 innings. I’d like to see the offense get in gear during game two, but I think the Mariners have a solid shot here.
