Early Oil: Best bets, preview for Caulfield, Bletchingly Stakes

Racing returns to Caulfield on Saturday where the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) is the feature event.

The rail is out six metres for the entire circuit and as of Thursday afternoon, the track is rated in the Good 4 range however showers on raceday could affect that.

BEST BET

Kin (Race 6 No.1)

Hard to go past Kin after her electric win at the track and distance last time out. Goes up 1.5kg and drawn out but she relished the cold ride last start and with Celine Gaudray sticking, the Godolphin filly can go on with it.

NEXT BEST

Rolls (Race 3 No.1)

It’s tough to go past the favourite Rolls for Maddie Raymond. He’s absolutely flying this prep having finished second to Mimi’s Award before another placing behind Young Werther. Gets his chance to break through on Saturday.

VALUE BET

Angry Skies (Race 7 No.4)

Has contested Stakes company at five of his seven starts so won’t know himself here in an off-season 3YO Handicap. Returns as a gelding and looked good at his most recent jump out.

QUADDIE

RACE 1

Peter Moody’s filly SENSICAL (9) is a $950,000 purchase out of black-type winner Karuta Queen. She was less than four lengths off Little Brose in the Blue Diamond and was solid when resuming here at the 1100m. Going to improve second-up and out to six furlongs. WOLFY (10) on debut following an impressive jump out. Was purchased for $280,000 as a yearling and looks to have ability. DEVILS DELIGHT (2) blitzed Line ‘Em Up Loui two back and that horse nearly won a stakes race a few weeks ago – has to be overs. PIASTRI (5) was trapped wide on the synthetic last start but still won comfortably.

SUGGESTED BET: Sensical (9) to win.

TAB market mover: Devils Delight (2) $23 into $9.50

RACE 2

The Danny O’Brien-trained KING’S CROSSING (2) has been a model of consistency this preparation and was good when second to the flying First Immortal. The in form Blake Shinn goes on board which only adds confidence. MOVEFORLEX (3) fought hard to only go down late behind Torranzino last time out. The former Tasmanian has scope to improve again. Brad Widdup brings FUN SUNDAY (4) down for another run after a solid fifth last time out. OFF HIS ROCA (8) is capable of performing at big odds.

SUGGESTED BET: King’s Crossing (2) to win.

TAB market mover: King’s Crossing (2) $3 into $2.80

RACE 3

It’s tough to go past the favourite ROLLS (1) for Maddie Raymond. He’s absolutely flying this prep having finished second to Mimi’s Award before another placing behind Young Werther. Gets his chance to break through on Saturday. NEVER AGAIN (2) maps to get a soft run in transit behind a strong tempo. Rarely puts in a poor performance for Reece Goodwin. TEEWATERS (3) doesn’t win often but is rarely far off and KHOEKHOE (6) likely to improve back on a dry track.

SUGGESTED BET: Rolls (1) looks hard to beat here. Win bet.

TAB market mover: Rolls (1) $2.45 into $2.10

RACE 4

Loved the way EUGENIUS (1) attacked the line first-up at Flemington when second to Stellar Olympus. Crying out for the extra trip and gets it on Saturday – good bet at the current quote. MOLLYNICKERS (8) out of maiden grade at Moe but the horse she beat looks promising and the pair gapped the rest by five lengths. INEXORABLE (4) is another likely improver out in distance. Good on debut behind Piasrti who has some hope earlier in the card. BALGOWAN (9) the only other I could entertain for exotics.

SUGGESTED BET: Eugenius (1) to win.

TAB market mover: Mollynickers (8) $2.80 into $2.20

RACE5

SHE’S PRETTY RICH (13) has a tricky barrier but I like the formline behind Our Red Morning. Finished second there but probably a touch unlucky not to finish a bit closer to the winner. Knocking on the door for a win and can get one here. IMPENDING SHADOW (16) was third in that race and drawn one inside our top pick in barrier 15. Has talent and seems to enjoy the 1400m. MOVADER (10) is up in grade but has shown good ability and maps to get all the favours from barrier four. DARALINA BELLE (3) is better than what her last few races in Sydney would suggest and could surprise at odds.

SUGGESTED BET: She’s Pretty Rich (13) quinella with Impending Shadow (16).

TAB market mover: Oceana Blue (6) $15 into $12

RACE 6

Hard to go past KIN (1) after her electric win at the track and distance last time out. Goes up 1.5kg and drawn out but she relished the cold ride last start and with Celine Gaudray sticking, the Godolphin filly can go on with it. RUN LIKE HELL (5) is a speedy filly so she’s well named and also has good ability having won two out of two. The main danger to the top pick. COTEL (2) knocking on the door with three strong runs this time in with the Cause For Concern form. LUNA ROCKS (4) down from NSW and can run well.

SUGGESTED BET: Kin (1) to win.

TAB market mover: Kin (1) $2.20 into $2.10

RACE 7

ANGRY SKIES (4) has contested Stakes company at five of his seven starts so won’t know himself here in an off-season 3YO Handicap. Returns as a gelding and looked good at his most recent jump out. VA VIA (6) had panels on them at this track and distance last start. It was a much easier race than what she’s up against here but has to be in the mix. JENNY JEROME (1) had excuses last start so put a line through that effort. Has won two of three when Laura Lafferty is in the saddle. BRERETON (3) back from a Queensland campaign and has a liking for Caulfield.

SUGGESTED BET: Angry Skies (4) each-way.

TAB market mover: Validated (2) $8 into $6

RACE 8

Consistent galloper NICOLINI VITO (7) needed the run first-up but he was a pass mark there when fifth to Mnementh and comes here with good improvement in him. MNEMENTH (5) keeps winning and hard to knock. Likely to be in the mix again here. GENERAL BEAU (2) was strong late behind Sigh last time out when beating INGRATIATING (1) and the two can run well again. INGRATIATING (1) did finish runner up to Paulele in the Schillaci when second-up last campaign – at this track too.

SUGGESTED BET: Nicolini Vito (7) to win.

TAB market mover: It’sourtime (6) $5 into $4.60

RACE 9

Impossible to dismiss ST LAWRENCE (1) who has won five of his six starts. Flying apprentice Carleen Hefel takes 1.5kg off and he’s drawn to get every chance in running from barrier two. CARDIGAN QUEEN (9) was a strong winner at Sandown at her last start before a short break. Races best on the fresh side. Marc Conners travels DANISH PRINCE (7) south to find some form. Best is good enough. BARRETTA (3) next best.

SUGGESTED BET: St Lawrence (1) to win the last.

TAB market mover: Scantoon (11) $13 into $10
