ESPN's FPI updates Ohio State, Notre Dame CFP odds after Week 4 thriller

ESPN’s FPI has updated the College Football Playoff outlook for Ohio State and Notre Dame after both teams went to the wire in a top-10 thriller Saturday night.

Just how big was the final play of the game with 3 seconds left? Well, Chip Trayanum’s goal-line plunge for the win produced a major swing in the Playoff odds for both programs as Ohio State escaped with a 17-14 win.

With the victory, Ohio State secures the top spot in the FPI and is given the best odds to make the Playoff at 59.5%. The next closest team in those odds is Oklahoma at just 46.9%. The Buckeyes are also given a 36.1% chance to advance all the way to the national title this season.

As for Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish now hold just a 5.2% chance of making it into the Playoff with the loss. Notre Dame is given a 16.2% chance of winning out, but the FPI also sees the most likely record for the Fighting Irish at 9.4-2.6.

While there is some hope left for Notre Dame, Paul Finebaum believes the Playoff fate for the program is already written. He slammed the Irish for the “major mishap” on the goal line as Ohio State secured the last-second win.

As for the national championship odds, Georgia is still the betting favorite while Ohio State is No. 4 behind Michigan and Florida State. Any fans looking to get in on the odds can take advantage of the Caesars Ohio promo code to get started!
