Aston Villa v Chelsea
FA Cup replay match at Villa Park, Birmingham
TV: ITV, 8pm

Amongst the FA Cup replays this week is a huge all-Premier League matchup between Aston Villa and Chelsea. The winner earns a spot in the fifth round of the FA Cup and a game against Championship opposition. With both managers desperate to win silverware there’s huge motivation for both teams.

Aston Villa to Win

We’re taking Aston Villa to win this game in regulation and earn their spot in the fifth round. There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, they are the better team this season. There’s a 15-point difference in the Premier League table and Aston Villa look functional and play as a team, as one unit, which Chelsea certainly do not.

Then there’s form and for Chelsea it’s been bad. They’ve had two defeats in a row but the weekend’s 2-4 loss at home to Wolves was a real low point. I still think Pochettino is the man for Chelsea but right now they’re not playing well, especially on the road and should get beaten.

Over 2.5 Goals

Not only have Chelsea been woeful on the road, losing five of their last six league games away from home, but the manner of those performances have also meant that we’ve seen a lot of goals. We’ve seen Over 2.5 goals in all but three of Chelsea’s away league games this season with seven of their last eight hitting the Over too.

Then you have Aston Villa who have, in the league at least, had Over 2.5 goals in 72.7% of their games at home. Villa look certain to score and Chelsea’s record suggests they will too, they’ll just let in too many goals in the process.

Ollie Watkins to Score or Assist

Whenever you’ve built a Bet Builder around Aston Villa this season there’s usually one place you start and that’s with Ollie Watkins. He’s one of England’s form strikers and surely heading to the Euros this summer.

In 23 league games he’s scored 11 times and assisted another 10 goals, with six goal contributions in his past six games. Against a Chelsea defence that have given up eight goals in the past two games, you can trust Watkins to either score or set one up.

Nicolas Jackson to Score or be Shown a Card

Despite Chelsea’s terrible performances on the road they’ve actually scored plenty of goals. Just two road games in the league have seen them going without a goal, so who scores for them on Wednesday?

We have to look at Nicolas Jackson. The Senegal striker is back from AFCON and has scored seven times in 20 Premier League games this year, four of which were from the bench. With Chelsea’s struggles I want some insurance on that, so instead of just backing him to score, we’re also backing him to either score or get booked.

The striker has pick up a huge eight bookings so far this season and has either a card, or a goal, in most games.

Cole Palmer to have 1 or more Shots on Target

It’s hard to find many positives when looking at Chelsea’s transfer business in the Todd Boehly era. However, you’d have to point at Cole Palmer’s arrival as the best move Chelsea have made.

The England forward has 12 goals for Chelsea in all competitions so far and leads the team in shots per game with an average of 2.4. The positions he takes up outside and moving in behind the striker allow him chances to get shots away and he should be able to get one on target on Wednesday.
