Giants vs. Padres prediction and odds for Saturday, Sept. 2 (How to bet the total)

The San Diego Padres played spoiler on Friday night, beating the San Francisco Giants 7-3 to even their four-game set and push the Giants into a tie with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the final wild card spot in the National League. 

The Padres are facing an uphill battle to make the playoffs, but they could knock the Giants out of the current teams in the playoffs with a strong close to this series. 

Saturday’s matchup should be a fun one with Cy Young candidate Blake Snell starting for the Padres against Giants top prospect Kyle Harrison.  

This will be just the third start for Harrison, but he showcased how good he can be, tossing 6.1 scoreless innings while punching out 11 against the Cincinnati Reds in his last outing.

Here’s how to bet on this matchup between division rivals:

Snell has probably been the best pitcher in baseball since the start of June, posting a 1.45 ERA in 16 starts, and he should be in line to slow down the Giants on Saturday. 

San Francisco is just 26th in the league in OPS against lefties and Snell held them scoreless in six innings in his last outing against the team. 

The Giants are also just in the middle of the pack (along with San Diego) in OPS over the last 15 days. The teams rank 15th and 16th in that category. 

While I do love Snell in this game, I think the UNDER is the best bet in this matchup. 

The Padres have hit lefties well this season (eighth in OPS), but they have been an under machine in Snell’s starts. Out of Snell’s 16 starts since June 1, 10 of them have finished with eight or fewer combined runs. 

Harrison has a FIP of 2.54 through his two starts, and he’s also led the Giants to multiple UNDERs in his two starts. 

I think this is a pitcher’s duel waiting to happen on Saturday night.
