Haskell 2017: Sharp Azteca sets track record in Monmouth Cup

Sharp Azteca set a new track record in Monmouth Cup at Haskell Invitational. Chad Brown won three races on the day. El Deal won the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Stakes at Saratoga on Saturday. He almost got loose in the barn on Sunday and cut his head. The ultimate goal is to run in Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Delmar this fall. It was a relief to get Sharp Aztca back in great shape. They won Matchmaker Stake by three-quarters of a length over War Flag. In the Monmmouth Stables, Brown also won two races.

Money Mutliplier won the Grade II $200,000 Monmouth Stakes by 1 1/2 lengths. Jersey-bred Irish Strait finished second. Money Multipliers trainer, Javier Castellano, rode him well. Irish Stater won a race at Mon mouth in May. The horse is owned by Isabelle de Tomaso, daughter of Amory L. Haskell. Amary L Haskell is one of Mon mouths founders. The Haskell Invitational is named for him.

Navarro won his third stakes race of the weekend. Chublicious held off Fast Friar to win the $60,000 John J. Reilly Handicap for New Jersey-breds.

Money'soncharlotte won the Molly Pitcher Stakes at Monmouth Park by 1 1/4 lengths. Eskenformoney finished second, Carrumba third. Kelly Breen-trained filly won Lady's Secret Stake at the same track on July 17.
