John Deere Classic odds 2023: The preposterous price you have to pay for this rising star

Make no mistake, Ludvig Aberg is coming. He's already flashed brief moments of brilliance in his still-nascent PGA Tour career, and the hype around the former Texas Tech Red Raider has reached a level where his name is legitimately being thrown into the European Ryder Cup Team conversation.

Having said that, Aberg has still yet to post a top-20 finish on tour, though he's certainly come close. A T-24 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational was the first sign that this kid can play, and he's since made four out of four cuts with a T-25 at the RBC Canadian Open and a T-24 at the Travelers Championship. He jumped out early at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, earning his way into one of the final groups on Saturday, but he faded to a T-40 finish.

That's enough for the oddsmakers at DraftKings Sportsbook to slap a 20-1 (!) tag on him this week at the John Deere Classic. Of course, the strength of field, which is noticeably weak at TPC Deere Run, is a huge factor in this price, but it still seems preposterous to see the former standout amateur with lower odds than PGA Tour winners like Adam Hadwin (22-1), Keith Mitchell (30-1) and Chris Kirk (35-1). Only three players—Denny McCarthy, Russell Henley and Cameron Young—have lower odds than Aberg.
