It is MACtion time, and these are the two worst teams in the MAC, and this will almost certainly be the only conference win for whichever team grabs this one. These teams are in the conversation for worst teams in the country, and both teams have only a single win on the season, each against a non-FBC school. On top of that, it is going to be around 30 degrees in Akron at kickoff, and it is hard to imagine a less interesting game in terms of real football. Then again, there are only 2 football games on Wednesday, and you and I will both be playing it anyway. This is still an opportunity to win some money, right?

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king, as the saying goes. In this case, that is the Akron Zips. Kent State is a mess. They lost their coach to Colorado in the offseason, lost a chunk of the roster to the transfer portal, and famously had to replace literally all 11 starters on offense. And it has gone about how you would expect—this is close to the worst offense in the country by any metric. This was always a rebuilding season. Akron is not much better—they lost their #1 quarterback to a season-ending injury, and the backups are a mess. Adding insult to injury, they are more or less having open tryouts for a kicker, having used 3 different kickers on the season for a combined 6-of-13 in FG attempts. So why back Akron? Let’s take the team that is playing at home, that is a little less awful, and that almost certainly has the better defense, at the very least. You could dabble around with a very low point total on this one, as obviously both offenses should struggle, but I do fear the risk of turnovers and short fields that create some points in this one. I’ll go with Akron to cover.
