Reds may have to be patient 

Liverpool will be aiming to make it three wins from three in this season’s Europa League when they welcome Group E rivals Toulouse to Anfield on Thursday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have already recorded wins over LASK and Union Saint-Gilloise this term and should be full of confidence after Saturday’s hard-fought Merseyside derby victory over Everton in the Premier League.

French outfit Toulouse are second in the group and can leapfrog the Reds with a victory at Anfield, although they have failed to win any of their past five away matches in all competitions.

Liverpool have a perfect six victories from six on home soil this season, while they are unbeaten in their past 14 matches at Anfield, winning 12 of those games, with their last defeat on their own patch against Real Madrid in February.

The Reds are certainly used to bossing proceedings on Merseyside, but they have had to bide their time in recent matches, with eight of their previous nine home goals being scored after half-time break – the only exception being Ryan Gravenberch’s strike against Union Saint-Gilloise that came in the 44th minute.

That victory over the Belgian club is also the only time that Liverpool have been in front at the break in their previous four home fixtures, as they came from 1-0 down to beat Leicester in the EFL Cup, while they were level in their recent league games against West Ham and Everton.

The Reds may need to be more patient on Thursday, especially as Toulouse have not been behind at the interval in any of their past five away matches. But ultimately the hosts should still go on to win the contest.

Nunez to lead by example

Klopp has been happy to rotate at least part of his attacking line-up match by match this season and that could mean a return to the starting XI for Darwin Nunez on Thursday after he came off the bench to good effect against Everton.

The Uruguay international entered that match with the score still 0-0, but he played a major role in helping Liverpool to victory, providing an assist for Mohamed Salah’s game-clinching second goal in stoppage time.

And Nunez has netted four times in all competitions this term, including Liverpool’s first in this season’s Europa League against Austrian outfit LASK. Do not be surprised if Nunez opens the scoring against Toulouse.

Plenty of corners if not goals

Corners have been in abundance both for and against Liverpool in this season’s Europa League, with a total of 31 being awarded in their two matches to date.

Toulouse are also averaging five corners per game in this term’s competition – and, with that in mind, it could be worth backing over 10.5 corners in the match as part of any bet builder.

The second part of that punt is to back Toulouse to score under 0.5 goals, especially as the Reds have kept clean sheets in back-to-back home games against Union Saint-Gilloise and Everton.

For their part, Toulouse have only netted three goals in their previous five away fixtures and, just as they did at both Marseille and Strasbourg, they could draw a blank at Anfield.
