The Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet Monday in MLB action from Dodger Stadium. The Blue Jays kicked off their west-coast swing with a matchup versus the Mariners over the weekend, losing the first pair. On Sunday Toronto eked out a victory to prevent the sweep. As for Los Angeles, they finished off a lengthy road trip versus the Ranges this past weekend. The Dodgers scored a whopping 27 runs in the first pair during blowout wins, then on Sunday LA fell by four. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays couldn’t get much going on Friday versus the Mariners in a 3-2 loss. Saturday was another close defeat, this time 9-8. Toronto’s Alejandro Kirk finished 4-for-5 in that one. In the finale the Blue Jays had six team hits in a 4-3 win. Vladimir Guerrero had two RBI and a homer, while Brandon Belt added a solo shot.

In the starter slot for the Jays on Monday it’ll be Jose Berrios. Over 20 starts so far this year Berrios is 8-7 with a 3.39 ERA and 114 Ks in 119.1 innings. Berrios put up a loss in his last start, managing two earned in 6.0 innings on four hits and four walks versus the Padres.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Over on the Dodgers’ side, they drilled the Rangers 11-5 Friday and 16-3 in the Saturday matchup. Game two featured four hits from both Freddie Freeman (two homers; three RBI) and David Peralta (two RBI; run). In Sunday’s finale Los Angeles couldn’t score after the first inning in an 8-4 loss. Max Muncy notched a grand slam as the only RBI contribution, and Freddie Freeman had two hits.

As starting pitcher Monday the Dodgers will send out Michael Grove. On the season thus far Grove is 2-2 with a 6.40 ERA in 12 games (nine starts). Grove has 47 Ks in 52.0 innings and gave up one earned in 5.0 innings versus Baltimore his last time up.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m going to stay with the Dodgers. Grove is coming off a nice outing in Baltimore, and even though he gave up four earned in 6.0 innings versus the Angels on July 8, he bagged another win to hit 2-0 in his last pair. Berrios should do pretty well here also; he’s got just three earned over his last 18.1 innings but is just 0-1 in those three starts. On Sunday the Dodgers offense shut down after the first inning and it was pretty rough all around in the early-going. Still, the bullpen held together (4.1 innings; one hit; no earned; no walks; six Ks) during the defeat. I like LA to regroup in this opener to recapture some momentum.
