Man City vs Sevilla prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets for UEFA Super Cup 2023

Manchester City and Sevilla are rewarded for last year's European triumphs with a chance for another trophy as the two meet in Greece for the 2023 UEFA Super Cup.

City, the reigning Champions League winners, and Sevilla, the defending Europa League champions, will both be eyeing more silverware, but the gulf between the clubs leaves one side far more desperate for the prize at hand.

The Premier League participants are coming off an historic treble and have their sights firmly set beyond this competition and instead on repeating that incredible triumph. Sevilla, however, finished mid-table in La Liga last year, even flirting with relegation for a time, and will be salivating for any chance at European glory they can muster.

Pep Guardiola will no doubt be looking to add more silverware to cement his resume in the pantheon of European dynasties, but with bigger aspirations for the coming season, Sevilla could exploit this Man City balancing act.

Man City vs Sevilla prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Sevilla (+675)
  • Score prediction: Man City 1-2 Sevilla

Manchester City are clearly the better team on paper, but Sevilla have never, ever let themselves be beaten on paper in European competitions. Regardless of how they're performing domestically, Sevilla have consistently performed in Europe over the last decade, and bettors should be mindful of this baffling phenomenon with little explanation but significant sample size to back it up.

While betting against Man City feels like defying logic, there's plenty of reason to prop Sevilla up considering the significant value presented. City are without Kevin de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Ruben Dias for this matchup, and John Stones could fail to prove fit, as well.

Players are always hungry for silverware, but Pep Guardiola is a pragmatic individual, and defeat here does nothing to derail the club's larger ambitions across the rest of the very long season.

Man City vs Sevilla best bet

  • Pick: Half with most goals — 2H
  • Odds: +100 (BetMGM)

Whether Sevilla pips this game in the end, or does eventually succumb to Man City's dominance, they should be able to at least hold out until the second half. Indeed, that's how they managed against Valencia in their season-opening league match last weekend, reaching the break at 0-0 before eventually falling 2-1.

Man City have the talent to strike early and often, but with enough key players missing, and Pep Guardiola possibly providing rest to others, there's a good chance for Sevilla to keep things locked down through the opening 45 minutes.

Man City vs Sevilla prop bet

  • Pick: Both teams to score — YES
  • Odds: -105 (BetMGM)

Sevilla will attempt to keep this match locked down as best as they can, and should at least make it to the break in such a manner. But keeping Man City under wraps for a full 90 minutes is a tall order and in all likelihood they'll have to outscore Man City to lift this trophy.

Youssef En-Nesyri has played giant killer in the past, while full-backs Marcos Acuna, Gonzalo Montiel, and former Man City player Jesus Navas can bomb forward and pin City's wingers back into defensive positions. This Sevilla team may have defensive frailties in front of streaky goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, but their attacking prowess is significant.
