Miami Marlins vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction 7-6-23 MLB Picks

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Miami Marlins meet Thursday in MLB action from Marlins Park. This will be the finale in a four-game series. The Marlins won the first pair, then on Wednesday in game three the Marlins eked out a high-scoring victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals lost 5-4 in the Monday opener of this set and 15-2 in game two. In Wednesday’s matchup St. Louis had the edge 9-8 going into the final half-inning but gave up two more in a 10-9 loss via a game-ending throwing error. Starter Matthew Liberatore lasted just 0.1 frames with four earned on five hits and a walk.

For the starter job in the Thursday game it’ll be Jack Flaherty. In his 16 starts this year Flaherty is 5-5 with a 4.60 ERA and 84 Ks in 86.0 innings. Flaherty is 39-30 with a 3.57 ERA in 118 games (114 starts).

Miami Marlins

Over on the Miami side, they recorded a whopping 19 team hits in the Tuesday victory. On Wednesday the Marlins bagged 12 team hits (and gave up 12) on the way to the win. Bryan Hoeing went 3.0 innings with five earned on five hits and three walks in the start.

Eury Perez will make the start for the Marlins on Thursday. Across his 10 starts this year (the first 10 of his career) Perez is 5-2 with a 2-47 ERA and 54 Ks in 47.1 innings.

The Cardinals are 4-0 in their last four in game four of a series and 4-10 in their last 14 versus the NL East. The under is 8-3 in St. Louis’ last 11 in game four of a series.

Meanwhile, the Marlins are 17-5 in their last 22 at home and 19-7 in their last 26 versus a team with a losing record. Miami is 16-7 in their last 23 Thursday games.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll take a stab on the Cardinals here. Probably not touching it, though; this one’s going to depend on what the starters do. Flaherty is coming off 6.0 clean innings in a win over the Yankees, but he’d given up 12 earned in his previous 10.2 innings. As for Perez, he gave up six earned in 0.1 frames during his last outing but had been pitching very well prior to that. On Wednesday St. Louis fought back well from an early 5-0 deficit and lost in tough fashion. The Cardinals pitchers need to tighten up in this finale, but I think they can prevent the sweep if all goes well.
