NBA future odds: Picks for MVP, DPOY and ROY for 2024 season

While the 2023-24 NBA schedule won't be fully released until later this summer, we do know that opening night tip-off will be on Oct. 24 and the regular season will conclude on Apr. 14, 2024.

Last season, Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid won his first MVP trophy as he led the NBA with a career-high 33.1 points per game and shot 55 percent from the field, a personal best. He was the first Sixers player to win the award since Allen Iverson did so in 2001.

Can Embiid become the 16th player in NBA history to win back-to-back MVPs? Here's our way-too-early betting preview for Most Valuable Player (MVP), Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) and Most Improved Player (MIP) for the 2023-24 season.

NBA MVP: Giannis Antentokounmpo (+500)

After winning the Central Division for the fifth consecutive season and finishing with the best record in the East, the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks were upset in five games by the No. 8 seed and eventual Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat.

A big reason for the defeat was the back injury Antentokounmpo suffered late in the first quarter in Game 1 that kept him out of the next two games. The "Greek Freak" posted a triple double in Game 4 and had a 38-point, 20-rebound performance in Game 5 but it wasn't enough.

While there's no denying Embiid's ability to win MVP again, there was a new rule established this offseason where NBA players must play a minimum of 65 games to be eligible for season-long awards and named to an All-NBA team. The former third-overall pick has cleared that number in relatively back-to-back healthy seasons but failed to do so from 2017 to 2021.

Slightly behind the consensus odds-on-favorite in two-time winner Nikola Jokic, who's at +430 to take home his third MVP in four seasons, I'm betting on a bounce back from Antentokounmpo at 5-1 odds as the Bucks rebound after an early first round exit.

For the best available price, wager on Antentokounmpo to win MVP at +550 on BetMGM or Caesar's Sportsbook.

NBA DPOY: Rudy Gobert (+1500)

Just over a year ago, the Minnesota Timberwolves made a massive trade for Gobert where they sent away five players and five picks to the Utah Jazz.

It was a tough season for the French center as he averaged his fewest points (13.4 PPG) since 2017-18 and only 1.4 blocks per game, his lowest since his rookie season in 2013-14.

I'm not betting on Gobert averaging 2.7 BPG like he did in 2020-21 but I do expect the 31-year-old to put up better defensive numbers and be more acclimated in his second season in Minnesota.

For a three-time DPOY winner, Gobert is a massive value of 23-1 (+2300) to take home the award on FanDuel Sportsbook.

NBA ROY: Scoot Henderson (+375)

All the hype leading up to the 2023 NBA Draft was about 19-year-old Victor Wembanyama. The San Antonio Spurs selected the 7-foot-4 French star with the No. 1 overall pick on June 22 at the Barclays Center.

Even with all the hype surrounding Wembanyama, I'm going with Henderson here. The third overall pick shined in his only action in the Summer League. Henderson did a little bit of everything as he finished with 15 points, six assists and five rebounds in 21 minutes. However, he left the game early with a right shoulder strain and did not return.

While he might sit out the rest of Summer League, I believe Henderson will be sensational in his rookie season and could be one of the lone bright spots for a Portland Trail Blazers team that could be rebuilding if they trade franchise cornerstone Damian Lillard this offseason.

Just like Gobert, the best price on the market for Henderson to win Rookie of the Year is on FanDuel Sportsbook where he's 4-1 (+400).
