Newsboy's horseracing selections for Monday's three meetings, including Windsor Nap

Newsboy expects his nap, Knebworth to call the tune in the Fitzdares Sprint Series Final Handicap at Windsor on Monday, and he also fancies the aptly named Ayr Poet to score again at Ayr.

TAKE KNEBWORTH to be a big hit in the Fitzdares Sprint Series Final Handicap (7.30) over six furlongs at Windsor this evening.

With more rain falling on Saturday the ground at the Berkshire course is heavy, a surface that could catch out a number of runners.

And while Richard Hughes’ three-year-old has yet to run on a hock-deep track, Knebworth is in great form, winning with plenty to spare at Haydock and York in consecutive weeks at the end of last month, and on both occasions with give in ground.

The son of Awtaad also has the advantage of a draw – 15 out of 15 runners - that could influence the outcome, particularly if the better racing surface is on the far rail.

So, while he carries a 7lb penalty, a hat-trick bid is well on the cards. Haymaker is the danger.

Ayr course specialist and appropriately named AYR POET is the choice in the Ayrshire Cancer Support Handicap (5.20) over 1m 2f.

Having gone close a couple times last month, Jim Goldie’s charge scored on heavy ground at the same course last week, and despite a 4lb penalty can repeat his victory in this race a year ago.
