Padres vs Reds Prediction

The San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds will conclude their weekend series this Sunday from Great American Ballpark. San Diego was emphatically powered by their big three en route to a seven-run win, 12-5.

Padres Betting Preview

San Diego moved to 38-45 after defeating Cincinnati. The Padres opened July by snapping a six-game skid, and they’ll look to win their first series in over two weeks here Sunday. The San Diego offense is scoring 4.31 runs per game, while batting .228, with a .317 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.76 ERA, with a 1.23 WHIP. Fernando Tatis produced three runs in the game two victory, and he leads the Pads in batting (.277) and home runs (15), with 40 RBI. Juan Soto matched his energy with a homer and four plated runs in the win over Cincy, and he’s hitting an identical .274, with a team-lead 46 RBI, while being tied with Tatis with 15 home runs. Manny Machado topped them both by going yard twice to bring his season splits to .246/11/36.

San Diego has yet to name a starter, indicating it could be a bullpen day for them.

Reds Betting Preview

Cincinnati moved to 44-39 after falling to Cincinnati. The Reds got a dose of their own medicine after absorbing an offensive onslaught from the Padres, and they’ll look to get some revenge here in game three. The Cincinnati offense is scoring 3.78 runs per game, while batting .257, with a .334 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.96 ERA, with a 1.46 WHIP. Spencer Steer homered in the game one win, and he now leads the team in hits (82), home runs (13), with 48 RBI. Jonathan India went yard in yesterday’s loss to SD, and he leads the Reds in runs (61), with splits of .256/11/45. Jake Fraley has produced a run in six of the previous nine games, and he leads Cincy in RBI (50), with eleven home runs.

Andrew Abbott (4-0, 1.21 ERA, 30 Ks) will get the ball for Cincinnati. The rookie lefty delivered again in Baltimore last week, striking out eight in six innings of work, while holding the O’s to just one run. The Virginia product enjoyed a marvelous intro to the majors last month, dealing scoreless outings in his first three appearances, then tossing ten strikeouts versus the Rockies prior to the strong performance against the Orioles. Abbott has only allowed four runs total in his first five starts, and he’ll look to keep rolling here Sunday.

San Diego vs Cincinnati Trends

San Diego is 38-45 against the spread this season, with a 32-47-4 O/U record. Cincinnati is 53-30 ATS this year, with a 49-34 over/under record.

Now that is the version of the San Diego Padres we’d all like to see on a consistent basis, but this isn’t MLB: The Show, and it’s impossible to count on that type of production. As impressive as it was, things will indeed slow down for the Padres when they cross paths with Andrew Abbott. The rookie pitcher took the league by storm quietly last month with a flawless first month of action, and after seeing the damage this Pads lineup can cause, he will more than likely come out sharp, and ready to go. SGPs for this game should be fun again with all of the name value here, but back Cincinnati to take the rubber match Sunday.
