Pirates vs Padres Prediction

The San Diego Padres will host the Pittsburgh Pirates for game two of their three-game set this Tuesday from Petco Park. Pittsburgh powered their way to a game one win, 8-4.

Pirates Betting Preview

Pittsburgh comes in at 44-56 after defeating San Diego. The Pirates have now traded their last six games, and they’ll look to win consecutive contests for the first time in over a month. The Pittsburgh offense is scoring 4.11 runs per game, while batting .243, with a .321 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.34 ERA, with a 1.39 WHIP. Carlos Santana went off and powered the game one victory with two home runs, and he’s now up 11 homers and 50 RBI for the season. Bryan Reynolds has plated a run in three of the last five games, he’s leading the Pirates in hits (85), with 46 RBI. Jack Suwinski also went yard in Monday’s win, and he’s first on the team in home runs (21) and RBI (52).

Rich Hill (7-9, 4.84 ERA, 94 Ks) will pitch for Pittsburgh. The veteran lefty had a tough time against Cleveland last week, giving up four runs in 5.2 innings en route to a Pirates loss. Hill isn’t much more than an inning-eater at this point, and he’s been vulnerable all throughout the season. Hill has allowed four runs or more in five of his last seven starts, which includes a matchup with this same group of Padres.

Padres Betting Preview

San Diego moved to 48-53 after falling to Pittsburgh. The Padres were pushed around by the Pirates Monday night, and they’ll look to respond here in game two. San Diego offense is scoring 4.31 runs per game, while batting .228, with a .317 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.76 ERA, with a 1.23 WHIP. Juan Soto went hitless in the game one loss, but he still leads the Pads in home runs (19) and RBI (57). Fernando Tatis also failed to reach base on Monday night, but he leads the Pads in batting (.284) and hits (93), with 17 home runs and 50 RBI. Manny Machado was the only member of the big three to record a hit against Pittsburgh, and he’s posting splits of .255/18/54. Xander Bogaerts has collected a hit in nine of the last ten games.

Blake Snell (6-8, 2.67 ERA, 143 Ks) will take the mound for San Diego. The eighth-year pitcher came back to earth last week in Toronto, walking seven batters in five innings en route to his eighth loss. Snell only allowed one run, so it wasn’t a blown up start by any means, and he comes into an ideal spot at home here versus the Pirates. Snell tossed ten Ks in Pittsburgh in late June, and he’s cleared double figures in five of his last eight outings.

Pittsburgh vs San Diego Trends

Pittsburgh is 45-53 against the spread this season, with a 50-44-4 O/U record. San Diego is 46-53 ATS this year, with a 47-45-7 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

San Diego was somewhat bullied by Carlos Santana and Pittsburgh last night, and I think the tables turn Tuesday night. The Padres lineup should smile seeing Rich Hill set to go for the Pirates, and they need a win to avoid a three-game skid. Blake Snell could be in for a bounce back outing himself, and this feels like a really good spot for the Pads. Let’s roll with San Diego here in game two.
