The Philadelphia Flyers face the Calgary Flames with both teams looking to improve on rocky seasons. The Flyers have a 22-25-10 record and with four losses in a row have fallen to the bottom of the Metropolitan Division. The Flames have a 26-19-11 record and with five wins in their last 10 games are in the middle of the Pacific Division. Both teams look to improve within their divisions and make a push for the playoffs and the upcoming game looks to be a good one.

Flyers offense has been awful this season

The Flyers are having a season to forget with their offense letting them down, scoring only 2.67 goals per game with only eight goals in the last four games. Travis Konecny, Kevin Hayes, and Scott Laughton have scored 56 goals and 75 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only five skaters have 10 goals or more and opponents can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

The offense has let them down but the defense has also struggled, allowing 3.19 goals per game including 16 goals in the last three games. Ivan Provorov and Travis Sanheim have combined for 4.9 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. The one bright spot has been the play of goaltender Carter Hart who has a .910 save percentage and a 2.88 goals-against average on 1273 shots with 5.2 goals saved above average.

Flames have been carried by their offense

The Flames are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.14 goals per game with 15 goals in the last four games. Elias Lindholm, Tyler Toffoli, and Nazem Kadri have scored 59 goals and 79 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also been great. Jonathan Huberdeau, Mikael Backlund, and Dillon Dube have combined for 37 goals and 61 assists while defenseman Rasmus Andersson has added seven goals and 29 assists from the point to help open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.02 goals per game. Rasmus Andersson and Noah Hanifin have combined for 6.9 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to carry the puck into the offensive zone and find open shots on the net. In addition, goaltender Jacob Markstrom has been awful with a .891 save percentage and a 2.90 goals-against average on 954 shots with -13.9 goals saved above average.

The Flyers are looking to snap their losing streak but I see the Flames dominating on their home ice and taking over this game. The Flames, who average 3.14 goals per game, should pile on the goals against a Flyers defense that allows 3.19 goals per game, with Nazem Kadri, Tyler Toffoli, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone and creating open shots with effective puck movement while Rasmus Andersson generates shots on the net from the blue line. The Flames should also limit a Flyers offense that is scoring only 2.67 goals per game with Rasmus Andersson and Noah Hanifin stepping up at the blue line and cutting off angles to the net on the rush while limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Jacob Markstrom to make plenty of big saves. The Flames should win the game and cover the spread in a dominant win on their home ice.

Prediction: Flyers -1.5 (+105)

The Flyers' offense has been awful and I see both defenses stepping up and making this game a low-scoring one. The Flyers should limit the Flames' offense with Travis Sanheim, Ivan Provorov, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shots on the net, allowing Carter Hart to make plenty of big saves. The Flames look to build off a game where they only allowed two goals and eliminate the Flyers' offense, which has scored only eight goals in their last four games, with Rasmus Andersson, Noah Hanifin, and the rest of the defensive unit forcing turnovers in the neutral zone and defensive zone while goaltender Jacob Markstrom blanks the shots on the net. The Under should cover in a low-scoring game with both defenses stepping up.

Take the Under on 6 goals.

Prediction: Under 6
