Pittsburgh Pirates vs Milwaukee Brewers Prediction 7-2-23 MLB Picks

The Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet Sunday in MLB action from PNC Park. This will be the finale in a three-game weekend series. Pittsburgh took a dramatic win in the opener, then on Saturday the Brewers evened it up with a three-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers blew a 4-0 lead—and a 7-3 lead—in Friday’s opener, ultimately falling 8-7. On Saturday Milwaukee scored five in the second inning and managed an 11-8 win. Starting pitcher Corbin Burnes logged 7.0 innings with two earned on one hit and two walks.

In the starter slot for the Sunday game the Brewers are sending out Colin Rea. Over his 14 games (13 starts) Rea is 4-4 with a 4.57 ERA and 57 Ks in 69.0 innings. Rea is 12-12 with a 4.80 ERA in 50 career games (40 starts).

Pittsburgh Pirates

Over on the Pirates’ side, they got a walk-off home run from Carlos Santana in the wild 9th inning on Friday. In Saturday’s matchup Pittsburgh posted six runs in the eighth to make things interesting but still fell. Johan Oviedo gave up eight on nine hits and three walks in 5.0 innings during his start.

Rich Hill will make the start for the Pirates on Sunday. In his 16 starts this year Hill is 7-7 with a 4.45 ERA and 80 Ks in 89.0 innings. Hill is 89-66 with a 3.89 ERA in 366 career games (237 starts).

The Brewers are 7-1 in their last eight Sunday games and 2-5 in their last seven road games versus a lefty starter. The over is 6-2 in Milwaukee’s last eight Sunday games.

Meanwhile, the Pirates are 50-102 in their last 152 in game three of a series and 18-44 in their last 62 versus a team with a winning record. The under is 4-0 in Pittsburgh’s last four Sunday games.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably go Milwaukee here. Also probably staying away. Rea is coming off a nice win over the Mets on June 26, tossing 6.1 innings with one earned on three hits and a walk. Rea had been a little sketchy before that, however. On Saturday the Brewers had a rough eighth inning but otherwise posted a pretty solid win. This one’s something of a coin flip to me, but I’m leaning Milwaukee victory-wise.
